Moritz Lampert well on track at the European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage
Amateur Moritz Lampert is trying to follow the footsteps of Oliver Fisher, who, as an amateur, earned his European Tour card through the Qualifying School in 2006.
Lampert carded a two-under par 70, in the fifth round of the European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage, to share the second position, on Wednesday, November 28, 2012.
He is one of the only few players who have not posted a single over-par score in the tournament so far.
The German started his campaign at the PGA Catalunya Resort with an even-par 70 in the opening round, and followed that with back-to-back rounds of five-under par score.
He then carded a one-under par 71 in the fourth round, and maintained consistency on day five by recording four birdies against two bogeys for a 13-under par overall score.
At the end of the day, he was trailing the leader John Parry by four strokes. Parry surged to the top of the leaderboard after firing a six-under par 66.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, Lampert said that he will not be trying anything extra that might ruin his chances to finish among the top-25 players on the leaderboard.
The top-25 and ties, at the end of the tournament, will be able to retain or earn their European Tour cards for the 2013 golf season.
“It was another good day,” said the 20-year-old. “It was tiring, but a birdie to finish was great and gives me momentum for tomorrow. It’s a long week but now there are only 18 holes left and I’m in a good position”.
He added, “At this stage it’s just about hitting it straight and not doing anything silly. I’m very confident for tomorrow. I’m quite surprised how I’m feeling – I don’t feel nervous at all. It was good playing with Tano (Goya) and Andy (Sullivan) today.
We talked a lot and had a lot of fun. That always helps me relax”.
His playing partner and the overnight leader, Estanislao Goya, in the meantime, faltered for a four-over par 76, to slip to the shared 12th place on the leaderboard.
