Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Moritz Leitner, has confirmed his loan switch to VfB Stuttgart. The player recently extended his contract with the former Bundesliga champions and will be with Stuttgart for the next two years, after
which he will return to the Signal Iduna Park.
Leitner is touted to be the next big thing in German football and he is said to be similar to Mario Gotze in many respects. The midfielder has failed to break in to the first team in the last few seasons despite the talent and
will gain experience while playing at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena.
VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fredi Bobic claimed that the player is a great signing for his side. He praised the young midfielder and admitted that Leitner will be one player to watch out for in the next season.
The chief also hailed the player’s versatility and is delighted with the agreement. He added that Leitner has the potential to succeed in the first team and is looking forward to how the talented player will perform for the next
two years.
“He fits in perfectly with what we want from a player. He is young, technically gifted and has a very good understanding of the game. And last but not least, he can be used in several positions. He has all the skills to play a
key role in our team,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Leitner expressed his delight on the move and admitted that the agreement will definitely benefit his career. The midfielder admitted that the chance of playing in the first team will surely help his cause and
it will help him gain a lot of experience.
“Stuttgart are simply a great club with great traditions. I think we can achieve a lot here. I have a great desire to help Stuttgart return to where they belong,” the 20-year-old concluded.
Moritz Leitner has thus far made 42 league appearances for Borussia Dortmund and is yet to score his first goal for the club. The player has also spent a loan spell at FC Augsburg in 2011 and has 10 appearances for the German Under-21
side.
