Moritz Milatz wins the first stage of the Trans Zollernalb 2012
Moritz Milatz of Team BMC secured the opening stage of the Trans Zollernalb 2012 after his tremendous performance during the contest.
He crossed the 56 kilometre chase to Balingen in a quickest time of 1 hour, 50 minutes and 49 seconds and occupied the top podium position.
Hannes Genze of Team Multivan Merida Biking fell one second short at the second position with Alban Lakata of Team Topeak-Ergon Racing, Markus Kaufmann of Team Centurion-Vaude and Jochen Kab of Team Multivan Merida Biking Team claiming the third, fourth
and the fifth positions respectively.
"I attacked with about 300 meters to go. I didn't know the rest of the course, but I tried and was able to make it,” Moritz noted after crossing the finish-line.
He further added, “I had no special plan for the three days, except training for the marathon worlds, but in my mind was to go for a stage win".
"We will see what happens next two days, but it's not easy because I have no teammate with me," he said.
Christopher Sauser of Team Specialized achieved the sixth spot with Kevin Van Hoovels of Team Versluys, Sebastien Carabin of Team Versluys Pro Mountainbike, Robert Mennen of Team Topeak-Ergon and Tim Bohme of Team Bulls securing the seventh, eighth, ninth
and tenth positions respectively.
Sabine Spitz of Team Sabine Spitz Haibike wins the Elite Women category after completing the race in 2 hours, 3 minutes and 56 seconds.
Esther Sub of Team Wheeler Ixs Pro fell 1 second short at the second position with Borghil Loevset of Team Orkla Ck, Gabi Stanger of Team Centurion Vaude and Jana Zieschank of Team Best-Bike-Parts/Kubis Bikes achieved the next three spots.
"Of course, I am here for training, but it is always nice to get a stage win," said Spitz.
"For the next two days, I have my plan, don't mind what Esther will do. We will see how it goes", she concluded.
Joris Massaer of Team Los Pedalos, Bas Peters of Team Cycletrend, Lars Ragnar Manengen of Team Black Tusk Racing By Tomotion and Geoffry Maes of Team Bike-Inn Herentals were the top five names at the Master 1 men event.
