I know pre- 1978 black men did not have the priesthood and therefore could not go "receive" their temple recomend and go "through" the temple.

But...Why were Black women were not able to go to the temple, even though they "don't" have the Priesthood? That does not seem right?

  1. Women of any color weren't allowed to go through the temple without a worthy priesthood holder, until maybe 20 years ago, unless they were serving a mission.  I can't remember exactly when that happened, just remember being told that I (a single woman) could now go through the temple if I wanted.

  2. It has been far too long since I have come to Y!A to read the lies that the LDS trot out to sucker people into joining their money making cult.  One cult member asked you to ask the thousands of black members: note: I've never met one.  I live in the heart of Utah and I visit SLC all the time.  I know tons of black people in the city and non of them are LDS.  The only black members of the church that exist are the children that perverted LDS people go abroad to adopt and then abuse at home.  Ever wonder why so many LDS people adopt black infants: slavery.  Simple as that.

Trust me -- here is Juab County Utah there are plenty of self satisfied Mormons who let their white children play all day while that "pickininies" are forced to do work indoors.  Yes, they use the word pickininies.  They are a sick and perverse group.

Why weren't black women allowed in the temple?  Because they would soil it.  That's the reason.  LDS people still believe that black people are dirty and lower than whites.

Don't believe me.  Become black and then try to become a mormon without agreeing to the owner/slave contract they will offer you.

  3. Well what you "know" is incorrect.

Blacks did have the priesthood pre-1978. (http://www.blacklds.org ) It was just that through the history of the church (especially under Brigham Young) the racism that was apparent throughout all of the nation was also in the church.

There was never a revelation that blacks couldn't have the priesthood and in fact Joseph gave the priesthood to a black 3 years after the church was founded and he was a member of the 70s.

You need to re-read the "revelation". It says that skin color isn't a factor into being worthy. It never said blacks are "now" worthy or that they weren't worthy before, it just says it's not a factor...God was telling the prophet that our tradition had been wrong.

And since what you "know" is wrong in the first place, what you "know" in the second place is pretty wrong as well. Blacks weren't allowed in the temple for some years but not just because they were women.

  4. The Endowment does confer priesthood on both men and women, and in the case of adults it is required before they can be sealed to their spouses/children.

  5. It has to do with the denial of the priesthood.

While women do not hold or use the priesthood, it is linked to all of God's children and is necessary for temple ordinances for both sexes.

  6. I'm pretty sure Mormons don't like black people.

  7. The LDS church, like many other relgious orangizations, does have an unfortunate history of discrimination against minority groups, although it appears to be changing.  In the LDS religion, you cannot enter the temple without a "temple recommend", which is a document granted by church leaders by those who have demonstrated they live according to the prinicples of the church.  Temple recommends have nothing to do with the color of your skin.

  8. What?! i'm a Mormon and black women are allowed to go through the Temple! that would be so bad and wrong if they couldn't!

    maybe b4 1978 they couldn't, but i don't know why.

    hope this helps! :)

  9. Because blacks could not hold teh priesthood, they could not go to the temple.

I know it doesn't seem right. But, it's what God decreed and we don't try to second guess God. He does what He does for His good reasons and if He wants us to know, He will tell us, and if He doesn't want us to know, He won't tell us.

Like my momma always said, life's not fair. Get used to it.

And Hosea, ask the thousands of black Mormons if Mormons don't like black people.
