  1. Melchizedek Priesthood

Through the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood, Church leaders guide the Church and direct the preaching of the gospel throughout the world. In the ordinances of the Melchizedek Priesthood, "the power of godliness is manifest" (D&C 84:20). This greater priesthood was given to Adam and has been on the earth whenever the Lord has revealed His gospel. It was taken from the earth during the Great Apostasy, but it was restored in 1829, when the Apostles Peter, James, and John conferred it upon Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.

  2. I'm not LDS, but I would like to share some things about it.

The levitical priesthood did not bring perfection. Another has come to bring perfection. The Aaronic priesthood has been done away with.

Hebrews 7:11-12  If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come—one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?  (12)  For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law.

Jesus is the high priest in the order of Melchizedek FOREVER!

Hebrews 6:20  where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 7:21-27  but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever.'"  (22)  Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.  (23)  Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office;  (24)  but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.  (25)  Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.  (26)  Such a high priest meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.  (27)  Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

All Christians are priests under him.

1 Peter 2:5  you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:9  But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Revelation 1:5-6  and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,  (6)  and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

That's where I get my authority from. I can baptize and do all kinds of things.

P.S. You know, I'm always curious about why I get thumbs down. Feel free to e-mail and show me why I'm incorrect. Not just here, but for any question. I'm always happy to learn or discuss it. Thanks.
