What does this proverb mean?

"prophet is least regarded in his own country"

i am supposed to tell what it means to me but i dont get it HELP! your opinions and what it mean 2 u!

  1. It means, that a person may be very wise, but if you're close to that person you may not recognize that fact.

    EXAMPLE:  You may have a teacher that's won all kinds of awards for teaching and developing new techniques BUT, because you see him/her daily, you don't think he/she's so smart.

    So, the teacher's in your country, and is not regarded well.

    However, in the next county over, they know this teacher's GREAT...  and they recognize that fact and the teacher is well regarded (thought of)
