Morten Orum Madsen shares the fourth spot after round one of the M2M Russian Challenge Cup
Morten Orum Madsen carded a four-under par 68 in the opening round of the M2M Russian Challenge Cup, to tie for the fourth place, at the Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
Earlier in the day, Magnus A Carlsson also posted the same score and took the clubhouse lead, midway through the opening round.
At the moment when Madsen joined Carlsson on the leaderboard, no one else in the field had a better score. However, Marco Crespi fired a six-under par 66 in the evening and confirmed his place on the top.
Espen Kofstad and Alessandro Tadini also crossed the four-under par mark and shared the second spot.
Meanwhile, Henry Scott and Agustin Domingo also joined the duo, Madsen and Carlsson, later in the day, after both registered a four-under par score.
Madsen started off on the front nine of the course and recorded two birdies before the turn, for a two-under par score. He then lost a shot on the 13th hole, prior to making a run of three consecutive birdies, starting from the 15th hole.
Overall, his game off the tee was brilliant and he created a number of birdie chances during the day. Throughout the opening round, he missed only two greens in regulation.
However, he stumbled on the greens at times, which stopped him from recording an even better score.
“I had a really good finish so that was really nice,” said the 24-year-old Dane. “I played really solid all day so it was nice to get some birdies out of it in the end. I wouldn’t say I was flagging all day today but I was striking the ball really well and
I think I only missed two greens”.
“I just needed to stay patient. I wasn’t taking advantage of all the chances but it was nice to be rewarded for my patience late in the round. I’m really happy to be playing solid golf again because it’s been a while”.
While talking about the course conditions, he stated that it was easy to hit the fairways because of their widths. However, missing them was like a suicide, as the rough was thick and tough to play on.
