Mortgage Broker for finding mortgages?

I think that is what they are called..... they basically look for the best mortgage for YOU? i want to find one that does that. I live in Richmond, VA. Any advice or suggestions?

I use a mortgage broker to buy houses.  A mortgage "banker" loans you their own money.  Bank of America is usually a banker.  They have your "future" mortgage money sitting in their bank.   A mortgage "broker" loans you someone else's money.  In theory , they can go to 100 different sources to get your loan.  Either type is supposed to look "for the best mortgage for you".  There are over 80 in the Richmond area. Your friends and neighbors can help you best. The name of the company is not always the most important thing; you want the name of the person who is the most helpful, smartest, and works 6 days a week.

A good correspondent lender or mortgage broker can pre-approve you (free, immediate, and you have no obligation), and shop your loan to many Investors (Big Banks and wholesale lenders).

Sounds like you are a first-time home buyer. You may want to check out the FHA programs at www.hud.gov.

Also, each state has first-time buyer programs.
