Question:

Moscow travel safety?

I wanted to ask if, in general, it's safe for an American tourist to travel to Moscow. Also, my Russian speaking is quite poor -- are there many people in Moscow that speak English? Or German? Or French, in a real pinch...

I know that this question will be a little difficult to answer, given the current uncertain situation in Georgia. But let's assume for now (for the sake of simplicity here) that the situation doesn't escalte, and the US doesn't get involved...

Thanks for your help!

  1. I also want to go there, but I admit I feel a bit unsafe...

  2. Moscow is as safe as traveling to New York, or LA. It also depends on where you go in Moscow, like nightclubs etc. It is always safer to travel with someone also no matter where you go. There are many people there who speak English, and German, but the French language may be a little more sparse. All Russian people I know really enjoy practicing their English, and are always happy to help teach their language. I am not to crazy for Moscow, to much traffic, to many people (approx. 8-10 million)...But it is an unforgetable experience
