Mosin-Nagant recoil?

So recently I shot my M44 for the first time. It was my first time ever shooting a gun, and the recoil wasn't bad at all. To everyone who has ever fired a Mosin: how do you evaluate the recoil?

I'd say its like an angry mule, but in a good way.

You are getting that kick-butt recoil because the Mosine is a kick-butt gun.
You can buy a rubber butt piece to eliminate the bruises.
I don't like how it moves the rifle farther away so I use a layer of mink furr over a layer of bubble wrap. Is thin, but still stops the bruises.
