Mosquito's and dogs?

i just let my dog out back to go to the bathroom, i was out there on the deck an my dog was running around the yard...when i brought her in i notice she has millions of mosquito bites all over her..i think she ran into a nest or something...i'm very very worried about her and sickness (westnile ) i really need help..what should i do? what are the signs of it in dogs..i really love my dog and i dont want her to die.

  1. It sounds like your dog got stung by bees instead of mosquito's. Usually when a dog is bit by a mosquito, you won't see a welt like you would on human skin. If you still think it's mosquito's, West Nile is uncommon in dogs and cats. Vets say that it has something to do with their immune system.

    The thing you do have to worry about is heartworms. Mosquito's carry heartworms and when they bite a dog  they can infect them. So make sure you dog is up to date on heartworm meds.

    To help decrease the welts, try calling an emergency vet first for advice or you could try Benadryl. Give 1mg per pound every 8 hours.
