Is there such a shrub or even a tree? Perhaps a plant of which you can grind the leaves or use the sap to make a resin that would repel insects when burned on charcoal (like incense)

  1. Basil, pyrethrum, geraniums, rue (the last one keeps away cats, too!) have been said to have insect-repelling properties. Citronella grass contains an oil that is used in mosquito repellants.

  2. These are all mosquito repelling plants Catnip, Rosemary and Marigolds.  Maybe dried Catnip or Rosemary would be the go.
