Question:

Mosquito squad? pyrethrin?

My friend had this company over called the Mosquito Squad. They said they used pyrethrin to kill the mosquitos.

Because they live so close to a stream I was worried if it would harm the water and fish. Well, after a quick google search I saw that pyrethrin raised the chances of a pregnant woman to have an autistic child by a lot. Also, I'm worried that it's killing all the other GOOD insects, and their neighbor has an outdoor cat.

Do you know anything about this insecticide? Should I tell her my worries

  1. I agree with Charlie B...

also, when you read info about any pesticides on the internet, they are usualy talking about the concentrated product.  the spray applied to the property would have been diluted in water as is the case with any pesticide or herbicide.

  2. Spray Listerine for a temporary relief from mosquito's

  3. I assume that you are in the U.S.

In the U.S. the environmental protection agency requires very stringent testing for all products that are registered. So provided that the company is a reputable company using registered products according to the label directions, you can be sure that the product meets the standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This standard is, that there is no unreasonable risk of harm to people or the environment.

Also, be aware that mosquitoes can transmit diseases like West Nile virus and St. Louis Encephalitis that can kill people.
