  1. Watered down Listerine in a spray bottle. It can be used on any surface where water would be safe, it actually smells good, and it's safe to spray on yourself or your children, no harsh chemicals to worry about, plus it's cheaper than bug repellant.

We used it at a outside family gathering that kept being interruped by spurts of rainshowers.   The humidity and the puddles of water all around us turned out to be the ultimate test for a bug repellant and it worked.

  2. listerine in a spray bottle. it really works!!!!!

  3. Go online and look for Bat Houses.Bats eats thousands of

mosquitoes daily, and they are not aggresive towards humans.Try reading about bats and i think you would agree with my suggestion

  4. Did you try citronella candles?

  5. just keep your surroundings clean..:D

  6. Avon Skin-so-Soft is a good repellent. But it is better to eliminate the mosquitos. If there is standing water in your yard, dump it out or use "mosquito dunks" or granules that you can buy at the hardware store. They are not poisonous-- they contain bacteria that makes the bugs die but doesn't hurt other life forms. Also, you can put up bat houses in your yard and the bats will eat them right up! Google "bat house" and you will see plans.

  7. wow - I can relate.  I absolutely hate the spray (not only is it really icky it is so bad for you - you should never spray it on skin).

I have a wonderful yard with lots of trees and unfortunately mosquitoes.  There are a few things you can do.

    1.  Get rid of cedars.  Mosquitoes love them.

    2.  Get citronella plants

    3.  Get citronella candles

    4.  Get citronella torches.

The torches REALLY work.  I put a couple on each side of my yard and I have a couple of torches near wherever I am sitting (or working).  If I light the torches for ten minutes or so, I never seem to be bothered by mosquitoes.  Also remember if you avoid perfumes (in creams and shampoos, too) it will help too.

  8. For your yard, porch and garden, get marigolds as these keep away those little buggies all season, without the expense of replacing citronella torches.

For your body, use Avon's Skin-So-Soft body oil.  Yes, I know that bug spray has been made with SOS, but it isn't the same thing.  It will keep those little buggies plus bees and wasps away from you, while your skin will be soft and supple, with a pleasant scent.  (no, I don't sell  Avon! lol)

  9. All of those mentioned work. But I hate the smell of repellents, I'd rather just kill them at the source.

If you have a pond or water feature you could try introducing some mosquito fish to the water. They eat the larvae. Or there are products you float or sprinkle in the water that don't hurt fish or plants but do kill the mosquito larvae. Just standing water can best be dealt with by getting rid of it or sprinkling that same product.

Good luck, mosquitoes are horrible little creatures.

  10. there are a couple of products you could try.  for your own yard, you can get something called "the mosquito deleto" or something close to that name.  It's a combination burner element to create carbon dioxide and a sticky surface kind of like flypaper.   Mosquitoes are drawn to carbon dioxide, as its the signal for them that blood is available.  When they go looking for the live creature breathing out c02, they get stuck in the glue.

The other product is battery powered, its supposed to repel mosquitoes via a high frequency sound the human ear doesn't hear.   I don't know if it works or not.

  11. oh, me too.  Lately I've been using Bert's Bees mosquito repellent......it's an oil with citronella in it.  I smell like a funny lemon.  But it is a bit sticky..........oh darn.
