Question:

Mosquitos and Babies?

I am going camping tomorrow and I'm bringing my 9 month old son. I'm afraid of him getting bitten by bugs,m especially mosquitoes. I know i cant use things such as OFF on a baby, so i was wondering if anyone knows what i can use to keep the bugs from biting him. Has anyone taken their babies camping, and what did they do for bug protection. My mother-in-law said i could spray Listerine? This sounds strange. PLease help

Also, please don't say something such as "if you don't want him to get bitten, don't go camping" or anything like that.

Thank you

  1. You can get citronella spray from CVS (probably Walgreen's too), spray in your hands and wipe on baby's exposed skin.  It doesn't smell the greatest, but it isn't greasy like skin-so-soft and it works wonderfully!  Also, bring some citronella candles along for nights around the fire.  Have fun camping!

  2. I use OFF Skintastic for Kids which is especially formulated.  You can only apply it once a day and not on their hands or feet in case they put them in their mouths.

  3. Your baby's skin might be more sensitive than your skin, but if you put him some cream that prevent mosquitoes he'll be fine.  However, if he has some skin problems or allergies than you'll have to ask a doctor.

  4. Avon Skin So Soft always works for my little ones.  It's oily so just keep it away from hands, feet, mouth, eyes.

    Have fun camping!

  5. Avon Skin-So-Soft is what I used when my kids were small its not infallible but it is better than nothing .I've also heard that Listerene works. Also look in the camping section for outdoor bug bombs.

  6. Go to your local pharmacy or ask your doctor. There has to be stuff out there for babies! I am currently living overseas and they make a bracelet here that is supposed to keep mosquitos away. So far I think it works, however, my 11 month old prefers to take it off and bite it (which is ok, according to the pharmacist, it is safe).

You should go camping and have fun! You are probably not the first parent to do it so don't feel bad, just protect him however you can!
