Most Eccentric Players in Major League Baseball - Part 1
Baseball is a serious game. Utmost concentration and sportsmanship is expected from the players. The management makes sure that their players or their team as a whole does not come under any negative scrutiny from the media. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes
they don’t. Even though they haven’t been part of any wrong doing, listed below are some of baseball’s most eccentric stars, known for more than just their performances on the field.
John Axford of the Milwaukee Brewers is known for his not so conventional facial hair which would have been very conventional had he been living in the nineteenth century, if not earlier. Another fun fact that he is known for is that he gives his fans the
freedom to choose his entrance music, which is what identifies him as he comes on stage.
Nyjer Morgan of the Milwaukee Brewers has often been talked about because of his very short temper that just can’t seem to be controlled and can go off anytime. He has a unique attention grabbing hairstyle and he is known for his dramatic catching in the
field. The most entertaining aspect of Morgan is that he has an alter ego which he calls Tony Plush. He was recently traded from the Washington Nationals to the Brewers, right before the 2011 MLB season began.
Matt Stairs of the San Diego Padres is known for his ‘walrus-like’ appearance as well as being famously known as a beer king. Appearances aside, Stairs is quite a player, as he has 265 career homers under his belt. When talking about the greatest pinch hitters,
his name is always mentioned.
The nickname of Big Donkey is given to Adam Dunn of Chicago White Sox for reasons unknown. He has a reputation of violently striking out. Dunn is a relaxed type of player, who doesn’t seem to get upset or worry about situations beyond his control. During
a game, he once called Bob Uecker. Obviously not the smartest thing to do while a game is underway and you are scheduled to play in it.
Nick Swisher of the New York Yankees gives new meaning to the notion that ’he acts like a kid more than a professional athlete’. As a relief pitcher he has proven himself many times for the Yankees. He is known for his childish antics both on and off the
field.
