Most Improved to improvise position in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes through experience at Newmarket
The Group 3 Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes (Colts & Geldings) will get staged at Newmarket over a mile on Thursday, 19th April. The £31,191 event has assembled a line-up of thirteen runners.
There are quite a few entries who have already raced at Newmarket but only during the previous season. The candidates who have raced and won in the current season have accomplished that on tracks other than Newmarket.
Most Improved, Lawman’s three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Tonnara, has raced all his three career starts at Newmarket with striking three different positions each time.
His career debut was in the Bet At Bluesq.Com Maiden Stakes on 5th August at Newmarket over seven furlongs. The 9/4 favourite of the race, Most Improved, followed right behind the winner, Kinglet, and suffered the loss by a short head’s margin
while riding with Martin Dwyer.
Settling third behind the winner was Big Johnny D.
Most Improved’s second start of the career was at Newmarket once more in the EBF “Dutch Art” Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs. Entered as the 4/5 favourite of the race, Most Improved dominated the final five lengths of the track
with Martin Dwyer onboard.
Welcome Gift qualified as the runner up while stationing third behind the winner was Goldream.
The three-year-old’s most recent try was in the Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes (Entire Colts & Fillies) on 8th October over seven furlongs. As if trying to finish on all the first three positions, Most Improved strode onto the third ranking this
time.
The race was won by Parish Hall who was threatened by the 15/8 favourite runner up of the race, Power, who was reeling in by a mere half length’s distance.
This time Most Improved was paired up with Frankie Dettori.
The others who have won at Newmarket are Trumpet Major, Beaufort Twelve, Campanology and Crius. They will make the race tough for Most Improved but it would be hard to intimidate the bay colt who has tried all the three finishing positions already.
For today’s race, Most Improved will become the mount for Kieren Fallon for the race today and how will the two justify the partnership this time will become news soon.
