Most Prominent golfers of 2010 (Part 1)
The year 2010 is almost over. With just a week remaining till the dawn of the year, here is a review of the happening stars of this year.
‘A Lion would never cheat on his wife but a Tiger Wood’
Tiger Woods would definitely have to be one of the most prominent golfers of this year. Woods was continuously in the spotlight and made the headlines since November of last year. In November 2009, Tiger crashed his car outside his Florida home. Following
this incident, the news of his infidelity came out.  One after another, mistresses kept on coming forward claiming they have had extra marital affairs with the fourteen time major winner.
All these scandals obviously had some base to it since things started getting shaky between Tiger and his ex-wife Elin Nordegren. Woods was facing a lot of problems with his marriage and the media wasn’t really helping. A new day there would be a new scandal
unfolded. It appeared as if the media was enjoying defaming the golf legend. Tiger and Elin tried various methods to save their marriage. From counselling sessions to s*x addiction rehab for Woods, nothing seemed to work out. Tiger and Elin hence got divorced
in August of this year.
Tiger was once seen as a respected father, husband and a noble golfer, but this year changed the way how many people look at Woods. Of course, he was ashamed of his mistakes and wished he hadn’t done what he did. Not only did Woods personal life get affected,
his professional life was affected as well. This was the first time in Woods career that he didn’t win a single title. In addition, Tiger lost his rank as the golf’s number one player. This was something precious to Tiger since five years and was now stolen
by the English golfer Lee Westwood. Hopefully, Tiger can put all the mishaps behind him and start 2011 on a fresh note.
‘Westy makes his way to the top’
The Worksop golfer, Lee Westwood, got the honour of dethroning golf’s top cat after five years this year. Yes, Lee Westwood has been the number one golfer since November first. Even though it hasn’t been long that Westwood is number one, it’s still quite
an achievement for him. With Phil Mickelson having almost twelve opportunities to displace Woods, it was Lee that worked up to the honour. Despite being injured through out the year and not playing in many crucial events, Lee managed to become world number
one. Westwood would have to be the only player without a major win to be on top of the world. Despite his lack of major victories, Lee‘s efforts are applaud able. The player had a torn calf muscle which flared up during the French Open. Due to his injury,
he took time off from competitive golf to get in shape for the Ryder Cup.  His injury recurred in the Scotland after the Ryder Cup, but he is fine now. For 2011, Lee has his eyes on the majors and hopes to win at least one of them along with retaining his
top spot.
‘Ochoa’s surprise farewell’
When talking about number one spots and rakings, Lorena Ochoa is one golfer that really made the LPGA ladies juggle the number one spot. This year, Ochoa’s early retirement came as a surprise to everyone including her fellow golfers on Tour. Being just 28
years old and also at the peak of her career, Lorena decided to quit as a professional golfer. The newly married player wanted to focus more on her family life and her husband. The news was more shocking since the player was the number one play in the Rolex
rankings when she announced her retirement. Having 27 wins including two major championship victories, Ochoa left the number one spot open for competition. Many players, including Cristie Kerr, Ai Miyazato and Jiyai Shin have been replacing the rank one after
another.
