hello,

im going to the beach soon.

i've been checking the 15 day forecast on accuweather and it was allll nice yesterday, now there's nothing but storms.

now that i know i can't trust that site, one because it's nothing like bay news 9 and the weather channel. and two because thats just weird.

so what site give the most accurate weather? i'm looking for a 10 day or 5 day forecast. :)

  1. All 10-day forecasts are inaccurate to be honest.  The 5-7 day forecast is pretty much 50/50, and beyond that it's a crapshoot.

As for a 5 day forecast, two sources tend to be most reliable for an outlook.  The first you have already mentioned, which would be your local news channel.  The second would be the National Weather Service.  They tend to have the best idea of local influences affecting your specific region and can spend more time and focus on point-specific forecasts.

Accuweater is ok, but over a long period of time the NWS office will prevail as most accurate.

  3. It is my humble opinion that forecast accuracy rapidly deteriorates after the second day. I see very little skill beyond the 5 to 7 day period. That is why most forecasts will stop somewhere around the 7th day. To put out a forecast for 15 days suggests that they have skill but I rather doubt it is much better than 30 year normalized climatology at that range.

I have reason to believe that local government forecasts offices often have an slight edge when forecasts are within that 5 day range.
