  1. Humans actually "do" have a mating season.  People usually feel "more" amorous in the spring, or at the time of the month when the women is most susceptible.

The thing is, that since humans are the most intelligent of all animals, and women know how to "attract" men, by using perfume, wearing low dresses, high skirts, exposing desirable body parts, and flirting, men don't have a chance when it comes to resisting those "charms".  So, walla.  Anytime, is a good time.

  2. The mating habits of humans are better thought of in terms of tropical animals, not animals from temperate zones with four seasons.  Our ancestors were located in the hot regions of Africa.  Our nearest living relatives, chimps, can breed all year round.  That makes sense in tropical places where there's no time of the year with a marked shortage of food.  Thought of in terms of that background, our lack of a mating season is hardly surprising.

  4. We have a mating season, it's all year around.

  5. Humans pair bond.  We take years to raise our young.  We need a long-term committed relationship to make that work.  s*x in humans is about bonding and maintaining a pair bond.  Since we have no mating season, we mate frequently and it maintains the bond.  Continued sexual coupling over the lifetime of the relationship, even during times when it is not possible for pregnancy, keeps a couple pair-bonded for the long time it takes to raise our young.

That's the evolutionary basis behind humans not having a "season."

A mating season is suitable for species that do not cooperate in raising their young and have a short infancy period.
