  1. Seriously check out the Onkyo TX-SR606.

The Denon AVR-1909 is another to consider.

They both are very nice receivers and are well respected.

  2. Without your location country its difficult to say, but in the UK the front runners would be Cambridge, NAD & Marantz. Don't forget to allow funds for decent quality speaker cables and leads.

  3. yamaha make kick *** receivers. The Yamaha HTR6190 is top of the line receiver. It features the power of 7.1 channels, four HDMI inputs, HD audio support and 1080p upscaling to titillate your visual and aural senses. It’s also XM satellite radio- and iPod-ready making this a powerhouse receiver for your ultimate home theatre experience.

  4. The Onkyo does produce alot of heat, but that is because the amp in it is so powerful.  I would be worried of any reciever that stays ice cold.  Even seperate high end amplifiers generate alot of heat.  I have the Onkyo 805 reciever and also the Denon 3808ci and they both generate alot of heat (but both are great recievers) a simple 4.00 fan placed blowing over the top of the reciever, cured the heat issue and even after using the reciever for four hours, both remain quite cool to the touch on top.

On the Onkyo the video processing section also generates heat but again the fan takes care of this.  I have not noticed any noise at low levels.  But I would highly recommend the Onkyo to anyone who is budget conscience and wants great sound quality along with the latest audio format decoding.

  5. this one is good
