The most brutal matches in WWE history: Last Man Standing
The one and only rule in the Last Man Standing matches, is that there are no rules. A wrestler is allosed to use any weapon on his opponent and will not get disqualified for doing so. There are no count outs, no pin falls and no submission invloved. The only way to win the match is to keep standing on both your feet before the referee counts to ten. A wrestler must beat his opponent to such an extent that he is unable to stand.
The lack of rules has made “The Last Man Standing” match, one of the most brutal in wrestling history. Wrestlers employ the most brutal of techniques to stop their opponents from standing up against them. It's not necessary for a wrestler to defeat his opponent in the ring, as the referee could start his 10 count anywhere.
Shane McMahon, the son of WWE Chairman, is often considered a wrestler who needs outside help to win matches. Though this may be true, Shane McMahon silenced his critics when he participated in the brutal Last Man Standing match against the world’s largest athlete, Big Show.
Shane McMahon climbed a 50 feet tall steel structure and jumped on Big Show from that height. It was an unbelievable scene as Shane McMahon flew through the air. Shane literally risked his life to win the grueling last man standing match. People still think about what would have happened if Shane had died after jumping from such a height. However the high jump he took manifests the reality of how wrestlers risk everything to win Last Man Standing matches.
Shane McMahon made history again in the Last Man Standing Match against Kane at “Unforgiven” in 2003. Shane tried to jump on the big red monster from a height of 30 feet. Unfortunately for Shane, Kane moved away in time and Shane collided with the ground. Needless to say, Shane lost this grueling match as Kane was the last man standing when the referee finished his ten count.
Many rivalries and feuds in WWE have been settled in the last man standing matches, as the fight is especially designed to identify the bravest of the brave. After all the pain and punishment, only the most powerful has the audacity and courage to remain standing. The great giants of WWE, Under Taker and The Great Khali finished their historic rivalry by engaging in a Last Man Standing mach. After the tough fight, it was the dead man, Under Taker who was left standing.
Beating someone in a match of this kind may be the most difficult task a wrestler could acheive in his life. John Cena who fought with Umaga in a last man standing match at Royal Rumble in 2007 presents proof of this fact.
John Cena literally used every weapon around the ring to beat Umaga in the fight. Cena used the steel steps, turn buckles, ring ropes and other metal items and beat the h**l out of Umaga which is how he won the grueling fight.
The last man standing match between the dead man, Under taker and the animal, Batista at One Night Stand was so severe that neither of the wrestlers were able to answer the 10 count of the referee. Both these great wrestlers lay on the concrete floor. This was the first time in professional wrestling history that the Last man Standing match ended in a draw. The draw actually portrayed the carnage this type of match brings with it. Triple H once broke the collarbone of Randy Orton in a grueling Last Man Standing fight.
Wrestlers often win their normal matches after pinning their opponents in the ring but it is the bravest of the brave who remain standing on their feet after such torture.
