Most car headlights have lines across their faces. what are these lines for?

  1. To "project" light emitted by a headlight on the road correctly.

    It prevents dazzling the oncoming traffic and concentrate the light on the road. Otherwise it would be all over the place. Compare that to a normal electric torch that projects light evenly. Modern Projector lamps have clear lens.

  2. if you mean the lines that make the squares on the reflector not the lens that is to aim the light coming out of the head lamp i work in a factory that makes headlamps for alot of different makes even semis the lights are aimed by the light pattern shinning in a computer controled box the old way to aim headlamps was the three bumps that are on old headlamps
