Most common format for DVD, watchable on DVD players?

Question

i'v a lot of files ending with .avi, that i burnt into a RW disc using Instant CD and DVD Burner (from download.com).

however, the RW does not play on my DVD players - Thomson & Panasonic.

i tried burning to the RW disc after converting to MPEG format, but still same results - nonplayable.

pls recommend if its the wrong format, or my DVD players are lousy. LOL!!

Standard DVD players read the .Vob format, the files you have now are in AVI format..

I would recommend you download ConvertXtoDVD. Ive been using it for a year now, never had a problem!

and trying using dvd-r's they work on all standard dvd players
