Question:

Most countries are Hypocrites when it comes to climate change?

I noticed that many if not all the counties say they want to reduce pollution by a given date. Yet I saw the news here in Japan saying they will invest billions of yen into one of the most sophisticated machines ever devised. This can scan every single inch of the Japan sea bed and look for oil many kilometers within the Earth itself. It’s a h**l of a gamble for the price they said, but they will pay for this and use this to help pollute the Earth even more.

China with 10 new power stns soon to be started will pollute even more and the USA just not bothered. Then you've got this bio, turning rice into gasoline which is going be one of the major problems rather than a solution when it comes to hunger and it seems to me the whole world is going stupid.

The changes to be made and targets just are NOT realistic & doesn’t everyone know that we don’t have 20 years? The damage done already to the planet is going add more C02 in the long run anyway, a sort of runaway train if you like.

There’s only one country really dedicated to saving the planet and that’s the UK.

My question is don’t you think most of the developed countries governments are hypocrites too?

  1. The planet doesn't need saving.  We are not powerful enough to destroy this planet.  We may destroy ourselves, but the planet will still be here.

If you want higher environmental quality in your country, the best way to do that is to increase the standard of living and create wealth for all people.  Any treaty or protocol that stifled the growth of wealth will stifle the environment and also hurt the poor people we supposedly care about.  The poorest countries have the worst environmental quality.  However, we should not be stifling growth in some targeted country (USA) to stimulate growth in poorer countries.  All people can see their standard of living go up, and thus the quality of their environment, without economically crippling other nations to do it.

You're right that in our fervor to create biofeuls, we are taking food away from the people who need it most.  This will cause greater problems.

  2. I think if the right people had been elected (and somehow kept alive while in office) even 60 years ago, we could have a country to really be proud of today in the sense of pollution abolishment.  Just think, we could have ruled the world not with just military might but with the best of all objectives--KEEP THE PLANET ALIVE FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN.  But now, even though skeptics will tell us to jump off cliffs, we must live out our lives in complete resentment of a political order which to me resembles a criminal organized mafia.

  3. It's futile we're doomed I tell ye!

  4. Yes, and George W. is one of the worst leaders in that category.  He is not concerned in the least about his grandchildren's future time on the earth.  He lets the Navy hurt whales with sonar (discovery channel this morning) and ignores global warming and makes war over oil.

So, here we are, the biggest blackest pot calling all the little kettles black.

  5. They have been harping about that for years.

Saving the planet, but nature still survives.

In Japan they hunt whales, don't they?

    Have you eaten whale meat?

  6. Governments know that they have to balance their citizens' desire for economic well being with the desire to protect the environment.  The consequences of global warming may be bad but the consequences of unnecessarily crashing the world economy might well be even more severe.  Politics is said to be the art of the possible, and we all have to do our bit to help them take the necessary and sufficient measures which are needed.

  7. I believe the scientists who say that the Climate Change is part of a natural cycle. I have researched the history of the past climates and the scientific causes of them as well as the results.

When the climate was warmer there was more rain and less desert. There was also less frozen tundra. There were more animals and plants living in places where they can't now.

There are people to whom any change is seen as bad. Dam a river that has trout in it and they will oppose it because the environment in the lake formed by the dam won't support trout. The fact that the lake is a new environment that will support bass doesn't matter. To them, all environmental change is bad and if caused by Man it is a disaster.

Next look at what political parties are supported by these environmentalists. Predominately Leftist. Look at which politicians feed the Global Warming, "We've just got to do SOMETHING or we'll all DIE!" hysteria, again predominately Leftist. Then ask what is in it for the Left? Power, money, control is what they want.

More conservative, more freedom-minded people and politicians resist being stampeded into things which will restrict freedom, give more power to government and cost money [ie. taxes]. Mostly because the remedies are expensive and have no guarantee of preventing GW.

I am in favour of bio fuels, but not at the expense of food.  I favour them because they are renewable, use solar energy to grow and can replace some oil.  For the same reason, I favour using synthetic oil or liquefied coal, it will replace some oil.  Let the Arabs and OPEC sit on their oil and stop making them rich.  The Arabs want to take over the world for Islam anyway, so why give them the money they will use to conquer  us?

The question of CO2 is not important.  If you insist that it is a pollutant which must be controlled or taxed, then since you exhale 2.5 lbs of it daily you are a polluter and your breathing should be taxed.  Should you fall into poverty and not be able to pay your breathing tax then you should be stopped from breathing.  That fits into the Leftist "logic".

CO2 is the least of our problems when it comes to pollution, but it is one where the demagogues can "DO SOMETHING TO SAVE THE PLANET!" and use mass hysteria to stampede the sheep into the pen they control and shear them to bare skin.

It is no hypocrisy to reject a false theory and continue to provide for your own people and economy.  An English king commanded the tide to stop and failed, so will the UK command natural climate change to stop and fail.

  8. Why do you think the U S is doing nothing? h**l, we can't even drive many cars from Europe because they can't meet our standards.

The problem we have is we have done a very good job doing what our wonderful "Environmentalist" said to do. We killed our wonderful Nuclear Program which would have done more than anything to reduce CO2. We put Precipitators, Scrubbers, and Re-generators on plants because we were supposed to FREEZE from particulates and green house gases. We cleaned up our lakes and rivers.

I am sick of hearing so many lambast the U S. I have traveled the world, and lived in 3 other countries. I can assure you, the U S is NOT the worst polluter. We may produce more emissions than other countries, but we also produce a lot more goods and services, and are larger than most. Most countries in Europe are the size of one state in the U S, if not smaller.

Our "Environmentalists" got it wrong. Now we are supposed to turn on a dime. Not going to happen. I just hope our "Environmentalists" aren't wrong again.

  9. It's not only goverments, it's people themselves. You are to blame. I am to blame. We are all consumers who have the power to make or break anybody trying to make a profit by damaging the environment.

Somebody elses answer suggested that we don't have the power to damage the earth, saying that we can destroy ourselves but the world will still be here. Well I'll tell you this, that person is an idiot. We have already caused mass extinction and are in the process of ruining the atmosphere and oceans.

Yes, the world will still be here when we're gone. But what else will be left?

Use your vote both as a citizen and as a consumer. That's your most effective weapon.

  10. your on the button, money short term god.

  11. We are all on board the Titanic so there is no point in travelling anything other than first class.

However the puritanical Scots who run the UK enjoy pushing the rest of us into steerage - it makes them feel powerful.
