  1. Smart Car (going to be hard to find for under £3500, admittedly), Citroen C1, Peugeot 107, Microcar, Q-Pod, VW Lupo TDi (104 mpg!).

  2. fait seicento there really economical they have 900cc engines and are quiet nippy. The petrol lasts for quiet a while as well. I have one and love it.

  3. Robin Reliant and its a Brit car too.

  4. Do you guys have the Toyota Prius over there? if not its probably called a different name

    if not drive a moped

  5. If you look hard enough, you could find a Citroen C2 1.4HDi LX diesel - Band B tax, electric windows, power steering, rev counter, RDS CD player with steering wheel controls, trip computer;

    You could get a 2003 one for £2800 if you shop around.

  6. Try this website:-

  7. Do not buy a Prius as these cars produce more CO2 during their manufacture than most cars produce in their life time. Besides all Hybrids are driven by stupid people who think they are helping the environment when in fact they do more damage before they even turn a key.

    Anyway...

    You would struggle to get a band B petrol car on your budget. So any Diesel car that is registered after March `01 and has an engine size of less than 1400cc will get you the £35 per year tax.

    I would say a Ford Fiesta 1.4 Diesel would be your best bet, but to get one for £2800 it will have higher than average mileage.

    Problem is the price.  The company who make the above will soon have a street saloon car available in the £17,000 range. It will do 200 miles on a single charge - not bad.
