Most iconic numbers in National Hockey League history – Part 2
Toronto Maple Leafs: No. 21
The list of legends with the numbers that they had continues and now we have a Toronto Maple Leafs player in the list. He is undoubtedly one of the legends of the game and one would surely know him, Borje Salming.
Salming is another one of those players in the National Hockey League who was able to prove his significance for the team with his game changing performances. He has played 1099 games for the Leafs and has scored 148 goals and 620 assists scoring a total
of 768 points. He joined the Maple Leafs in 1973 and remained a part of the franchise until 1989 when he was traded to Detroit Red Wings.
He proved to be a great asset for the team as he leads the teams with the most assists by any player and also in plus/minus. He came across quite a lot of success being a part of the Detroit roster but it was his performance in the Leafs squad that saw him
outplaying others consistently and making a name for himself.
New Jersey Devils: No. 27
Scott Niedermayer of the New Jersey Devils is another one of the greats of the game. He has been able to come up with consistent and game winning performances every now and then. He played 892 games for the Devils that saw him scoring 112 goals, making 364
assists and scoring a total of 476 points.
He became a part of the Devils in 1991 after which he spent 12 seasons with the side and showed his class. He was not only a player who moved the team on his shoulders but he combined them very well to take the best out of them. However, he still had a lot
to offer when he left the Devils in 2005 and joined hands with the Anaheim Ducks. He retired from ice hockey in 2010 after achieving quite a lot in the game.
His consistent performances have not only made him a game changing performer but also a very vital player in the team. His time with the Ducks was also very productive as he made the All Star team in 2006-07. During the season, he was also the winner of
the Stanley Cup. However, his career is headlined by the fact that he won the Stanley Cup twice during his time with the Jersey.
New York Rangers: No. 9
The number nine shirt of the New York Rangers was worn by Andy Bathgate and Adam Graves. Both the players have been an important part of the franchise as they have done a lot for the team.
Bathgate has played 719 games for the Rangers which have seen him scoring 272 goals, coming up with 457 assists and scoring a total of 729 points. Graves on the other hand has played 772 games that have witnessed him scoring 280 goals, 227 assists and scoring
a total of 507 points.
Bathgate was brought into the Rangers squad in 1949 while Graves joined hands with the franchise in 1991. Bathgate ended his journey with the Rangers when he was traded to the Maple Leafs in 1964 while Graves was traded to the Sharks in 2001.
Both the players played a very important role in the team’s success. This is the reason that they are the two most important players in the history of the franchise.
