Most iconic numbers in National Hockey League history – Part 7
Chicago Blackhawks: No.1
The goal-keeper of the Chicago Blackhawks is another one of the best players in the list. Glenn Hall is the player to make a name for himself and he wore the Number one jersey for the team. He was brought into the Hawks’ team in 1957 as the result of a trade
with the Detroit Red Wings and stayed there until 1967. Hall left the Hawks as a result of an expansion draft by St. Louis Blues in 1967.
He had a lot of success and played in 618 games for the team and came across 275 wins while playing for the Hawks. Hall was also at the end of securing 51 shut-out performances and maintained a decent 2.60 goals against average.
Hall was quite marvellous to think about starting with the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1956. He has come across a tremendous amount of personal success that has resulted in him making 13 appearances in the National Hockey League All Star Games.
He was one of the best goal-keepers of the time who managed to win the Vezina Trophy on three occasions in 1963, 1967 and 1969. He was also on the end of winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1968. His career did not end after his retirement but continued to
work as a goal-keeping coach.
Hall won the Stanley Cup in 1952, 1961 and 1989 (as the goal keeping coach). He was also one of the most consistent performers in the team as he started in 502 consecutive games. For the things and achievements that he has come across resulted in him being
inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1975. In 1998 when the list of top 100 players was compiled, Hall was ranked 16th.
Chicago Blackhawks: No. 18
The Blackhawks have another player in the list who occupied the Number 18 jersey. He was Denis Savard who outplayed all his competitors to make a name for himself. He spent two time spans with the Blackhawks, once during 1980 to 1990 and then again during
1994 to 1997.
Savard was brought in through the draft in 1980 and was the third overall pick. He was traded away to Montreal Canadiens in 1990 after which he was brought into the Blackhawks once again from the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1994.
Denis is among some of the most productive players that the National Hockey League has come across. He has played 881 games with the Blackhawks that have seen him scoring 377 goals, piling up 719 assists taking his total score tally to 1096 points.
He pursued his career even after retiring and was appointed as the coach of the Blackhawks from 2006-2009. However, the journey was not much of a success story as the team missed the play-offs on the first two occasions. Though they made it through into
the play-offs the third time but they failed to advance and Savard was fired.
For his constant and productive performances, Savard was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000 and after not having such a smooth journey as a coach, as he now serves as an ambassador for the Chicago Blackhawks.
Savard is one of the Blackhawks best players who have continued to serve them even after he ended his remarkable career.
