Most improved players in the English Premier League – Clint Dempsey, Nani and Van Persie (Part 5)
In this last part of the featured series on most improved players in the English Premier League as per their performances in the 2010-2011 season, let’s take a look at the final two names on our list...
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380
Arsenal’s flying Dutchman did his best to propel them towards a third place finish near the end of the 2010-2011 Premier League season but the damage had already been done as Arsenal failed to finish above the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786
and Manchester City.
Now the Gunners have to refocus themselves on the summer transfer window where they need a central defender or two along with a world class goalkeeper if they are going to challenge consistently for the English Premier League title
in the up-coming season. Van Persie was a breath of fresh air when he returned from injury to an Arsenal side which was almost hesitant to shoot on goal.
The Dutchman brought poise and balance to a side which needed a spearhead in attack, something that was provided by the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 player. Van Persie has had his fair share of injury problems and this was evident in the 2009-2010
season when he played 16 league matches and scored nine goals. However in comparison, his 2010-2011 season with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 was a massive improvement.
Despite missing a large part of the first half of the Gunners’ season, Van Persie struck back with an agenda as ended the season with 18 goals and seven assists. Arsenal will depend heavily on their star striker in the coming season
if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 and Cesc Fabregas leave the club in the summer transfer window of 2011. It seems likely that such a scenario will develop but the Dutchman is a reliable operator if his injuries are kept at bay.
Luis Nani
Hated by everyone but Manchester United’s fans in the English Premier League, Nani’s breakthrough season was truly the 2010-2011 Premier League season. Before that he was a player playing on the brink of his talents as many at
Old Trafford through that he was too faulty in the final third of the field when it came to crossing the ball for his team mates. His decision making was criticized in the 2009-2010 season when he opted to shoot rather than passing the ball to some of his
well positioned team mates on the field.
In the January of 2010, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 was relegated to the bench after falling out with Ferguson and it appeared that the winger was on his way out of Old Trafford. However all of this changed in the 2010-2011 season. Nani started the
season off with a bang as he developed a tremendous understanding with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 in Wayne Rooney’s absence due to an ankle injury. Nani ended the season with 18 assists in the bag along with nine goals which is a vast improvement on his 2009-2010 season
tally of just three goals and 10 assists.
Nani suffered a dip in form near the end of the Premier League season which coincided with the return of Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Valencia-c6345 from injury. The Ecuadorian winger was played on the right wing back Ferguson which is originally Nani’s
preferred position. It remains to be seen whether Nani will play a large part in United’s title http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 in the up-coming season but what is certain is that the Portuguese winger is now a fan favourite at Old Trafford.
