Mine only has 2gb which I bought back in April. Do I need to buy more memory or is 3-4gb too excessive for normal internet surfing and coursework?

  1. find out yourself...... hit ctrl-alt-del - pick the task manager... go to performance... then look and see how much physical memory your using...  note 2gb should do you easily 1gb would prob suffice....

  2. Its all depends on how often and how hard you use your computer if you are just surfing the internet and doing coursework then 2gb of ram should be ample if your computer is being slow then the easiest way to fix the problem is by adding ram

  3. 2 GB is more than ample. My home computer is windows vista with 1 GB ram. I use itunes, word processing, and internet usage constantly, and its not only more than adequate with absolutely no problems, it also has very quick start, downloading, and finishing times. My laptop has 2GB, and even that is way more than adequate for its same purposes. You never need more than 2GB unless you're running really exhausting graphics software and games constantly. So dont worry, and save your money. The extra ram isn't necessary.

  4. I've got 4 GB and it's not enough. I still see a lot of pageouts to VM but that's with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Word, iTunes and Firefox open constantly. Plus, email, font management, and lord knows what else I open during the day and forget to close.

For your needs, 2GB is probably fine, but for many of us there's no such thing as too much RAM

  5. Unless you are into hardcore gaming, 2 gb is more than enough for your laptop.

  6. Your 2Gb is fine.

  7. NO COMPUTER REQUIRE MORE THAN 2GB

Vista requires one gb to run so to really perform it requires to

XP requires 512 to run so 1gb is more than enough.

  8. Vista is a memory hog, the more the better.

  9. No. You do not need more than 2GB, 2GB is perfect, there is no such program that requires more than 2GB, I have it myself and every game works perfect on it. 3 or 4 GB is useless... For now (though I can't see how can games be so powerful that they will ever need 4 gb).

  10. It depends on the OS (operating system) your running. Windows XP is a 32 bit interface meaning it can only support up to 3gb of RAM. Windows Vista 32 bit is the same, however Vista 64 bit will support far more (16gb?)

As for how much is needed, 512mb in XP and 1GB in Vista for general internet and word processing uses. If gaming or using for multimedia applications i recomend doubling those figures.

  11. 2gb is sufficient for your needs, you only need more if you are using resource intensive programs, like graphics software, video editing or games, etc.
