I have one 8MP Olympus DSLR camera. If I copy the 8.0MP JPEG pictures to a DVD or CD and play in Blu-ray player, will it be full 1080p output? Means, 8.0MP JPEGs native resolution is 3264x2448, and Full HD resolution is 1920x1080. So, technically I should get Full HD resolution.

I am planning to buy a blu-ray player but want to verify that it can play JPEG to Full HD format.

  1. Yes it will output your photographs at 1080p if the unit is setup to do so. I'm not sure how the player will handle resolutions higher than 1080 like your camera. If the player doesn't have auto resizing you wont' see the whole picture like on a computer monitor. Best bet is to take picture at 1920x1080 or re-size your larger photo down to 1920x1080.

I'll try a photo DVD in my ps3 with an ultra hd photo and let you know how it turns out.  Yesterday I ran 1080i wmv videos from a DVD. :)

My ps3 automatic re-sizes extra large picture to fit on screen. It keeps the aspect ratio. I can zoom and pan through the image using the joysticks. I have a photo of Jessica Alba at 4040x4986 resolution. It's huge. I can only see sections of the image at 100%. But it's sharp where ever I look.

Photos done at 1920x1080 fills the screen and looks great. Good for slide shows or photo albums.

  2. Unless it is recorded in high definition, it will not be a true high definition image.  The player will upscale the image and the output from the player will be 1080p, but it will not look very good because the image has been upscaled.
