  1. Was born and raised in the Miami area, lived in Orlando for 10 years...know the state pretty well. I would have to say Fort Lauderdale.

Pretty diverse city without much racial tension. Florida is not the most racially friendly state to begin with, so we're talking small degrees of difference between most of the cities. If you're looking for better, consider more culturally advanced places like NYC, Boston, Chicago or DC. Closer to home, Atlanta would be a big step up.

  2. I agree with the assessment of Florida given above, to a degree.

South Florida from what I have seen is less tolerant than most any other area of the state, that is mainly due to it being the current "melting pot".  Latinos, blacks, Middle Eastern, Cubans, along with many others are jammed together in an area that is relatively small in size and high in population.  Conflicts arise.  Attitudes are fostered.  Violence is the norm.

Fort Lauderdale, while a nice place for a vacation, is only slightly better than Miami, slightly being the key word.  Naples is far worse.

I'm not sure about the Tampa Bay cities of St Pete, Clearwater and Tampa,,, just north of Tampa is Port Richey, New Port Richey, Hudson, and Brooksville, which seems to be a much more laid back area of the state.

Gainesville and Talahassee would be two other areas I'd suspect would be tolerant simply because of the school based population.
