  1. Definitely take a walk along the Seine...it's free & there's something magical about it...well, the whole city is magical!  The Louvre, while not the most romantic, is not to be missed!  I was in Paris this past December & paid about 17 euros for my ticket.  Also, take the metro to Montmartre, explore the area & don't miss the Sacre Couer...it's truly breathtaking inside & out.  Finally, take some time to walk around the Latin Quarter.  I found that this area is what I pictured Paris to be....small streets, quaint cafes & shops...it's perfect!  Have fun in this wonderful city!!!

  2. eiffel tower, le marais also

  3. Take a walk through Paris at night near the Louvre. You see Pei's pyramids, lit up at night. The view is exquisite from the bridge across the street, and you can see the Eiffel Tower all lit up in a different color each night. The view is spectacular. There are benches in the nearby park and many couples bring a bottle of wine and food.  It is free and it is safe.

Take a ride on the hop on, hop off river boats (bateux ), like the Autobus. It was about 11 Euros per adult . You can ride until closing. The boat stops at many attractions and has different stopping points for each ride. Skip the dinner ride since the food is overpriced and mediocre.  Don't visit attractions and museums on a Sunday because the lines are very long. The better days are midweek.  Bring a small umbrella in case of rain.  There were many wonderful street artists along the entire route, too.

Make reservations ( the French eat dinner late so after 8 PM, the restaurants are crowded) at Le Souffle in the First Arrondisment.  The prices are reasonable and the entree and dessert souffles are to die for. The Grand Marnier was my favorite; my husband loved the raspberry one. The service was wonderful and the ambience pleasant. I think dinner with wine and dessert was about 40-50 Euros.  Meals are leisurely lasting several hours.

We enjoy architecture so we walked every where. Bring your cam corder or digital camera to enjoy your pictures at home. Each morning we chose an area to visit in the first district.  We were only there 3 days, also. Try to stay within close distance to your district or you spend a lot of time on the transit, which is  plentiful. The cost is free except for meals and transportation.

Food street vendors like the crepe makers are a tasty bargain, depending on the size, 1-2 Euros. There are many cafes, with outdoor seating.  If the weather is warm, it's a nice view of all the passersby. It is customary to order something from the menu, however.

The Parisians are pleasant, willing to help, but a bit reserved by American standards. They enjoy tourists who take the time to learn a few basic French phrases like Bon Jour (Good Day); Si vous plait (If you please, literally, as inpreceding a question); Merci Beaucoup (Thank you very much). Rick Steves on the web and most decent bookstores sell pocketbook versions of phrases. This is very helpful in restaurants that don't translate the menus.

Wear comfortable shoes, neat clothes, and bring a jacket as it gets cool at night.  Right now the US dollar is weak.  You can check the exchange rate at any major banking site on the web. ATM's are plentiful, but buy some Euros when you arrive. Our bank had international ties; however, many outdoor ATM's were being renovated.  It is less expensive to deal with a bank that is affiliated with yours because the fees are lower-around 3-4 Euros per transaction.

Clothes and shoes are tres chere, very expensive. Outdoor vendors have better prices than the shops. There are several indoor malls in the first district.

Like any large city beware of pickpockets and beggars.  It is best to protect your valuables, cash, and passport in an inside pocket that is secured. The beggars are mostly young women with a big tale of woe about feeding their babies, and they work the major streets and attractions so keep on walking past them, or they will not leave you alone.

I would go again if we could afford it because it is so beautiful. It was a once in a lifetime trip, a very belated honeymoon.

  4. An evening walk along the Seine, hand in hand.  A walk up Montmartre in the afternoon with a stop halfway for a cafe creme, then a bit of time admiring the view of the Eiffel Tower from the Cathedral Plaza.

    Walk through the Tulleries.

If you have a spell of homesickness, and want to have an American meal, go to Joe Allen's, 30 Rue Pierre Lescott.

  5. I love Paris - J'aime Paris...Too bad you are only there 3 days, you will go back again. I won't say Paris is just" fun" because it is more than that, it is literally magical. I've been there three times and would love to go back for my own honeymoon. Paris is also probably the most expensive city in Europe, so it is going to be hard to stay on your budget. Make sure you bring European electrical outlet adaptors, haha!

    Anyways...Top spots.

    1. Night boat cruise on the Seine- so romantic, very beautiful. Some of the boats actually serve dinner and/or drinks. Usually there is an announcer, many in English, who will tell you about all the bridges along the way, history, and more.  Here is one I found for you: http://www.viator.com/tours/Paris/Romant...

    2. Ile de Cite- the Island in the middle of the Seine, on which is Notre Dame cathedral. This island is the original city, one of the oldest areas. The cathedral is breathtaking, another great one at night. There are flea-market ish street sellers here, selling everything from jewelry to books to artwork.

    3. The Louvre. Amazing...Also nearby another Museum, L'Orangerie with Monets fullsize, 40 ft waterlilies paintings. Art, history, and the parks outside and down the Champs Elysees to the Arc are a great day. Make sure to buy a Crepe from a street vendor.

    4. Latin Quarter (left bank) near Montmatre and Sacre Couer. Very nice area for dinner and walking- lots of italian restaurants and bohemian personality. Quieter dinner night could be had here.

Remember to say Bonjour and Merci!

  6. Cycling the city at night it's a romantic thing to do. Also you can take the "Bateaux Mouches" boat tour, also at night. If you're going in the winter, skating a little at the Tour Eiffel or Hôtel de Ville it is lovely. In the summer or spring, maybe a picnic in Jardin de Luxembourg or Place des Vosges.

If you follow the Seine river (southern side) from Tour Eiffel to Notre-Dame it's also a nice thing.

  7. The Louvre museum is a repository of some of the best art and artifacts in the world. Not to be missed!!!

  8. Paris is a small city compared to London for ex. It is a wonderful place to get "lost" walking, so many details architecture, a door handle in the shape of a lizard, a second hnd book store.

I would indde recommend riding the boat on the seine but no meal, poor food and expensive, walking along the seine from the Islands to the Eiffel Tower or the assemblee nationale is enjoyabel as you pass many historical museums/buildings

The outside of the Louvres museum at night is fun, and you can enjoy a cup of coffee or meal at teh Cafe MArly in front of the Pyramid, then walk in the Tuileries

The Marais il fun and lively especially on Sunday (most of the rest of the city is quiet on SUnday except Champs Elysees)

Montmartre to see the sun rise (if dancing all night...)

You used to be able to go to the rooftop of the Samaritaine and see the old areas of Paris but store was closed as needs safety updates etc, Luxembourg gardens are fun and you have 2 cafes in teh gardens which alos serve food

Enjoy, I lived there 20 years and still woudl discover something new everyday.
