Ireland is an island. Holland was swamp. Korea was a peninsula. Luxembourg was a gigantic fort. Switzerland is in the mountains. But I don't get it. Why did Portugal become a country?

  1. I think that the main reason is the difference in language today and also Portugal has been around longer than modern unified Spain.

  2. The Catholic Portuguese conquered the Moors that were residing in the area at the time. Spain was already established, so it had nothing to do with Portugal. They both co-existed, and neither Kingdom was conquered by the other.

  3. Portugal shares a common border with Spain. It can grow no bigger because it is surrounded on three sides by the ocean so it has no place to grow bigger. International maritime laws do not allow it to expand its borders into international waters, so, I guess the ocean is the natural border that keeps it small.

  4. that's a good question. I am sorry I don't know the answer. Hopefully someone will come along with the answer you're looking for. :)

  5. cause Spain is a bully lol
