I swear things like silver plated fondue pots or an unmatchable living room lamp is passed from couple to couple to just get rid of it when you can't get yourself to just throwing it away. What big wedding gift white elephant have you seen?

  1. We got a duck cookie jar that I swear is from the 70s. haha  It's in storage somewhere.

  2. A broken, old, blender, expired gift cards, and AN APPLE!

It didn't even look like an appetizing apple!

  3. My sister and her new wife got this HUGE, bright purple vase with butterflies engraved on it for their bridal shower.  It was from my SIL's mother, they did a great acting job pretending to love it, but it is so not their style at all (who's style IS that?)

I don't know where they put it, but her mom was so proud for picking out, so they must have kept it and will have to display it somewhere for when she comes over.

  4. name and address book for the new bride...with a divorce lawyer's card inserted in it.

  5. Anytime someone gives the couple silver candlesticks.  It's like, who uses those besides Liberace???

  6. Well - I don't want to sound ungrateful - I certainly appreciate that people have different tastes and all and that a gift is still a gift - no matter how much you dislike it!  But for us it was not just one gift - it was about 10!

Unfortunately (even though it wasn't on our wedding gift list) a lot of people decided (between our engagement and wedding) to buy us wine glasses.  Not special crystal ones or anything, just standard everyday wine glasses.  We already had plenty that my parents gave to us when we moved out - but we had to give them back to my parents after receiving 50 (yes 50) wine glasses as gifts.  All in different styles.  (Considering each gift was for 4 or 6 glasses in a set... so yeah - 10 different styles of glasses)  I mean when are we ever going to use that many wine glasses?!

We do appreciate the thoughts of our guests buying these for us - but the reason it wasn't on our gift list was because we didn't need them!  Oh well - we will just have to use them for big parties instead of plastic cups!!!

  7. *ugh*...

When we got married we chose not to register for any silver or crystal because, frankly it never gets used and is utterly worthless for every day application.

So what happens? My wifes side purchases silver everything because they think everyone needs silver for entertaining and is a status symbol or something.

We've been married 4 years and have used them once I think.

I think we also got a regifted Pizza cooker.

  8. LOL - one that I got when I married my now ex-husband.  One of his relatives had our invitation copied onto a fluffy satin and lace pillow (the kind that your grandmother displays with her collection of Precious Memories figurines and tiny spoons of all nations), complete with tiny satin bows and dripping with fake pearls.  It's not something that matches any decor, nor can you ever lay your head on it.

  9. ummm a friend of the family got married last year and put diapers on their registry (they do have 2 small children) but still thats not something a guest should have to buy for them.

  10. I've never seen one but if I received one, I'd find a way to use it.  The lamp can be painted to match and I love fondue so a pot in any color would be welcome.

  11. An ashtray given when the couple did not smoke and there will still some ashes at the bottom of it. !

  12. my sister got this  bowl. it was ugly, and looked like it came from the goodwill. I think her now husband's aunt gave it to them. She has since donated it.

  13. For my shower I got this ugly wedding photo album, scrapbook, and guest book all in one.  The cover looked like 1970's wedding decor.  The scary thing is is that i got two of these things from the same shower.  I sent a thank you, and threw them away later.  Luckily he people who gave them to me couldn't make it to the wedding.  I also got a key and mail holder that has this ugly country design on it that isn't made any more.  we plan on using it after we paint it to match our decor better.

  14. Breadmaker- who has time to bake your own bread, even with a machine it's too much work.

  15. Expired gift cards.
