Motel or camping ground? economic decision?

If you travel through the western United States in the summer, you are much more likely to encounter a shortage of camping spaces than of motel rooms. What is the operative economic decision here for this.

Motel rooms are more expensive - camping spaces are more healthy and taking into account wonderful summer-time utility from camping is higher than utility from motel-rooms.
