  1. I used to live in Montreal only a few months back. It might be tough to find a room on either of those street for that price. If you want to stay in the centre of these streets (they are both very long), you are limited to mainly the big chains and expensive hotels. The further east or west on these streets you go, the higher your chance of finding a bargain. They are really not too long to walk along, 5 - minutes max to walk to the centre of the action.

There are a few hotels just below saint-catherine near to Rene-Levesque also.

A good place to start is http://search.hotelroundup.co.uk/City/Mo... it basically compares all the huge sites and saves you doing it one by one :-)  I'm all up for saving effort!

    Hope this helps.

  2. All hotels are expensive in Downtown montreal, and I have never seen any motels.

However if your willing to pay only up to $80 then I would suggest Saint (St) Jacques street. All the Motels there are cheap ( $60 - $70) and very clean. My recommendation would be the Colibri Motel (

    Motel Colibri

    6960 St Jacques, Montréal-Ouest, QC H4B 1V8

    Telephone : 514-486-1167)

There are other motels located on that street that you can also look into in the event you decide to go there.

  3. Both St-Catherines and Sherbrooke are long, long streets that run parallel to each other about 3 blocks apart.  You are going to have to be more precise about exactly where you are going to be located.  But there are many hotels at which $ 80 should procure a room, especially if you use a service like Priceline or Hotwire or are a member of hotel loyalty programs.

I have stayed reasonably and comfortably many times at a Comfort Inn on Park Avenue, just a block from Sherbrooke, not too far from McGill and from the art museums.
