I'm starting w/ a cold the sore throght, etchy eyes, stuffy nose..no cough though, well I have a 4 month old daughter will she get it too. I also bought vapo vicks vaporizor/humidifier (I know that is mispelled but you know what i mean hopefully) will it be safe to use the vaporizor with my daughter in the same room, it might help her to not catch the cold....any experiences on the subject thanks in advance mom's!!!

  1. not if your breastfeeding, the antibodies you produce to fight off the cold will go into your breast milk and prevent your baby from getting sick. i mean yes there is a chance but only like a 20% chance. i breast fed my son till he was 15 mos the moment i got sick after i stopped breastfeeding him, he got sick. and i think the vapor things you put in your humidifier, i think it says you shouldnt be used for kids under 10. but that is only on the one i read, ask your doctor if its safe.

  2. More than likely yes it will happen, probably not as bad as yours sounds..but she will probably at least get the sniffles...

definitely use the vaporizer/humidifier that will help a lot im sure!!

    Good luck...

  3. I had a cold when my baby was born but since I nurse I passed on the antibodies to him so he did not catch it.

  4. she will catch it....no biggie.... my mom had gotten sick then i got sick then my girl got sick she was about 5 months old...just ask doctor how much med to give if you need to take her...

  5. I just recently had a cold and my baby didn't catch it.  I just took over the counter medications and washed my hands well before playing with my son.  He is nearly 9 months and formula fed so I have been pretty lucky.

  6. Whenever I have gotten sick my son has never gotten it, and I am also breastfeeding. Just try to wash your hands and use sanitizer before you handle her.

  7. nope, surprisingly! Ive been sick with a cold twice this summer and she had a runny nose for about a day but that was it.

  8. I got the flu and he didn't get that, he was about 5 weeks old than. He did get a little bit of a cold when his daddy had one, but only mild.

  9. I am in the same boat.  I have a 7 month old and have had a slight cold since Sunday.  He seems fine so far so I am hoping he won't get it.  I BF and have been washing my hands all the time.

  10. If you breastfeed, your children will rarely contract what ever it is that is making you ill.  All those wonderful antibodies in the milk :)

If she catches the cold, she catches the cold - She will have better immunities in the future.

As long as she is healthy and growing right now a cold should be no problem!

  11. colds are spread by germs so the vaporizer won't help or hurt.Children will get colds, don't fret it's normal.

  12. Vicks vaporub contains camphor which is toxic in small amounts.  Keep it well away from her and certainly do not put it on her.  As long as you can keep the vaporizer away from her I guess its safe to use, but it won't prevent her getting sick.

  13. I actually never have gotten sick from my children nor have they caught anything from. Me. I don't know why. It was the sane for my mom. I don't know if I got lucky or what. But I wouldn't worry about it. If she does get a cold it will be after you because the incubation period is about 2 weeks, so you will rarely be sick at the same time.

You can use it in the same room. I would suggest a dry vaporizer. If it's a wet one the humidity in the air isn't good for her. And it wont prevent her from getting the cold. She'll get it or not.

    Hope you feel better soon!!!

  14. there is a good chance if you get a cold that the baby will catch it.  however, if you are breastfeeding she might not because of the antibodies in your breast milk.
