Mother Goose Stakes 2011 - Bob Baffert trained Plum Pretty to make her way to Hollywood Park
Bob Baffert trained bay filly, Plum Pretty, may not have made her way to the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes but she is being considered for the Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks.
An illness came in the way of her making it to the Saratoga race course for the $250,000 Mother Goose. But the three year old bay filly showed such a timely recovery that Baffert entered Plum Pretty in the $150,000 Hollywood Oaks, which is to be held on
the same day, Baffert in a text message indicated that this is the probable plan for Plum Pretty on June 22, 2011.
Mother Goose Stakes was to take place on June 25, 2011 in Belmont Park. The Kentucky Oaks winner would be the second filly to participate in the Hollywood Oaks after running the Kentucky Oaks.
The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro has won three of her five starts. She comes to the Hollywood Cushion track with earnings of about $761,200. The race is eighth on the card and is to be run over a distance of 1,709 metres.
Plum pretty has A.P. Indy mare, Liszy, as her mother. She also shares lineage with three time consecutive holder of the Horse of the Year award, Rachel Alexandra. Her parentage makes her a tough contestant to take on, but among the other four contestants,
Big Tiz is likely to pose a fierce threat to Plum Pretty. Big Tiz is trained by Mark Glatt.
Baffert has already enjoyed a win at the Hollywood park with Santa Catarina in 2003. He was also victorious in 2007 with Tough Tiz’s Sis. But he is not the only one hopeful for a possible win.
Zazu’s trainer, John Sadler is looking for a consecutive in the Hollywood Oaks. The first conditioner able to pull this feat was Charlie Whittingham in 1971-72.
Zazu is owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, his mount will be held by Joel Rosario. Zazu will be carrying 119 pounds. Plum Pretty will be carrying 123 pounds.
The names of other contenders are Love Theway Youare and Wallstreeter. Love Theway Youare will be carrying 115 pounds and similarly Wallstreeter will be bearing 113 pounds.
Before making her way to the May 6, 2011 Kentucky Oaks, Plum Pretty won the Sunland Park Oaks in New Mexico by 25 lengths, while jockey, Martin Garcia, held her reins. Martin Garcia is going to be aboard her in the Hollywood Oaks as well.
Plum Pretty is owned by Peachtree Stables. If she runs and is victorious in the Hollywood Oaks then she would be the second filly to win both the Kentucky Oaks and Hollywood Oaks. Fran’s Valentine got hold of this honour in 1985 for trainer Joe Manzi and
owner Earl Scheib’s Green Thumb Farm Stable.
