Mother Jones to lead the Leicester Mercury Handicap at Leicester
Majority of the entries for the Class 5 Leicester Mercury Handicap are fairly seasoned in the 2012 campaign but none have been able to achieve anything truly exceptional. The race will be held at Leicester over five furlongs and two yards on Tuesday, 5th
June.
The £2,588 event has assembled a line-up of eleven four-year and older runners.
The most accomplished entry for the race is Mother Jones, Sleeping Indian’s four-year-old bay filly out of mare, Bella Chica. During the eight races that she was a part of during the new season, Mother Jones credited two of them against her name as wins.
She started off the season with a miserable defeat in the Mirror Punters Club Handicap on 8th January at Southwell over six furlongs. She was last on the track of eleven in the race that was won by the 100/30 favourite of the race, Bandstand.
Settling right after the winner was Dancing Freddy.
Her first seasonal success was in the Wolverhampton-Racecourse.Co.UK Classified Claiming Stakes on 27th February at Wolverhampton over six furlongs. She set the 10/11 favourite of the race, Steelcut, second by a mere neck’s difference.
Mother Jones went victorious through the wire while riding with Hayley Turner.
Coming at terms with the third position was Cape Of Storms.
After missing the race to a third position, Mother Jones again dictated the terms of the race that came in right next. David Evans’ trained four-year-old was successful in the 32Red Handicap on 4th April at Wolverhampton over five furlongs.
For a second time when Mother Jones won, she managed it at a very narrow margin. She led the runner up of the race, Speightowns Kid, by a short head’s difference.
The 3/1 favourite of the race, Blown It, ended third in line.
Her most recent race in which she finished third was the Betfair Brings You Better Value Handicap on 22nd May at Brighton over five and a half furlongs. The race was won by the 7/2 favourite of the race, Ginzan, who led the runner up, Cut Across,
by a nose’s differential.
Her chances of bouncing back into form today are substantial.
