I was thinking about joining the Us air force or navy. But, unfortunately, I have a 4 yr. old daughter that I have to look after. Do you all think that there will be child care on the base? I will need to work and I might be away from my daughter...is there some kind of day care or something similar?

  1. I was a single soldier with a new baby.  When I got to Italy for duty my chain of command expected me to go to the field with my unit whenever they did and I had to leave my baby with who ever.  I know for a fact that this one girl really didn't want to take care fo my baby.  She had complained that she had to get up in the night to feed him.  If I had known she really didn't want to take care of him I would never had left my son with her.  I wish you all the best.

  2. What are you going to do if you get deployed? Not the navy- ship time is away time. Navy and AF do have deployments where family can't go. AF won't be at sea for 6 months but you could be somewhere else that the kid can't go. ... I don't recommend military life for you

  3. Why do you want to do this?  It's hard enough to be a working parent with a day job.  Your daughter has to be your focus.  You can try to give yourself an education, a career, but you need to be more available to her than what a military career would allow.
