Mother and daughter trip to Central/south America!?

Hello!

I'm going to be in central/south America from Apr-Jul and my mum wants to meet me for a month. She's suffering from a bit of a career burn out. We need advice on somewhere suitable for us to meet up we want to stick to cheap areas, but pleasant, nothing fancy just with good standards and hopefully with unspoilt nature. Somewhere interesting and easy going to live the simple life for a few weeks.I'm 23 and she's 42. Any recommendations to get us looking in the right places would be much appreciated!

Many thanks

Lara

  1. You NEED to check out Iguazu Falls if you're after nature but within reach of nice facilities- it's simple breathtaking and you're going right at the end of the wet season, so you'll be lucky.

It is on the border with Argentina and Brazil- plenty on the Internet and in your local travel agents, but it's still largely unspoilt. Check it out, and have a great time!

  2. If she wants to go on a little stress free retreat then i suggest San Andres Island. beatiful island. AKA the island with the sea of seven colors. Been there once and honestly what a beautiful place to be. Great food. great ppl and great servise. since is not such a know island is cheaper than most and less hectic with tourists. You should def check it out.. now if you r want a city to visit.. then Buenos Aires, Argentina.. Medellin, Colombia.. and Santiago, Chile are great choices.. Been to all those places and Medellin is gorgeous.. Called the city of eternal Spring, it has left its violence in the past and its become safer than Wasington D.C... Latin America is beautiful and the ppl are great!

Hope you have fun wherever you guys go!

  3. Honduras is very cheap and definitely unspoilt nature, La Ceiba is nice, has beaches, the garifunas people, good food, a national park at Pico Bonito mountain, you could take a ferry to the bay islands also, you could also visit the copan ruins. They have nice hotels maybe with the standards you are looking for and you will not find the places crowded by tourists.

  4. Hi Lara; it seems that your mum is quite young so you will have a great time. Go to places like Costa Rica (beautiful jungles and beaches) and then Peru, Argentina, Chile. The south of Chile and Argentina (Patagonia) is breathtaking. Check Machu Picchu in Peru if you like that stuff too and also Iguazu falls or Rio de Janeiro. The best places are always found through travel web pages like Frommers Guide or Lonely planet. They give you the best advice and also the kind if vaccines you need if you want to go to the jungle, etc. Also check www.tripadvisor.com whicj gives you real commnets and pictures of places and hotels, not the brochure type.
