  1. *  CURRENTLY:

          U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport, passport card (scheduled to be in full production beginning in July 2008), or WHTI-compliant document; or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.

        * LATER:

          On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI.  The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or WHTI-compliant document.

  2. Your mother may also need a notarized letter of permission signed by your sister's father to take her out of the country.  You can check the State Department website, or the official government website for Jamaica, or ask your travel agent.

    I hope they aren't planning on going out on their own in Jamaica.  They should stay on the resort premises or go only on resort-sponsored excursions.  Jamaica is not a safe or comfortable place for tourists to be wandering around, especially two females.

  3. Pass Port and a Visa

  4. if they are traveling from the US, Canada, or UK and are citizens, they need valid passports and a driver's license if your mom plans to drive. If they are permanent residents they need proof of permanent residency in addition to the above items.

    If traveling from another country it is best to check with that country's equivalent of the State Department or the Jamaican Consulate to determine if a visa or any other documents are needed.

    K

  5. A passport.  And hopefully they're not leaving soon, as it takes a couple months to get without expensive fees to have them rush it.
