I just bought a couple mother in laws tongue plants, from ebay. They come bare root and so I bought some nice big pots for them. There only little plants and there big pots in comparison. I herd they prefer to be root bound, is this true? and will it effect them to much?

  1. i would not  put them straight into big pots, as they do like to be pot bound, so start with small pots then when repoting them, choose one a size bigger no more, they will lat for years and can grow very tall, mine are over 20 years and are about 5 feet now

  2. I agree with Tanika97 the roots like to be squeezed into a small pot or container.  You should water after the soil is dry. Do not over-water. The botanical name is Sansiveria.

  3. plant them and let them grow-might have to stake them till root system holds plant upright-tighter the ball gives more support

  4. You have what is scientifically known as ‘Sanservieria’.

Do a search on Sanservieria Culture or Sanservieria Care or Potting Sanservieria.

You should get plenty of information to answer your questions and make growing them easy.

Aside from being called mother-in-law tongue, it is also called good luck plant, lucky plant, devil’s tongue and bowstring hemp. They are VERY easy and forgiving houseplants.
