of ireland?

"In cases where at least one parent was an Irish citizen born in Ireland or an Irish citizen resident abroad in the public service, citizenship is automatic and dates from birth. In all other cases citizenship is subject to registration in the Foreign Births Register."

So according to the nationality law, I'm technically an Irish citizen.

  2. Yes, you are an Irish citizen.

  3. this is only the case if you applied for it. Boyh my parents were citizens of Ireland but i am only an American citizen. This law only applies if they are still citizens at your time of bith and had you in a different country.

If one of your grandparents is an Irish citizen but none of your parents was born in Ireland, you may become an Irish citizen. You will need to have your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.

    Excerpt from the post bellow:

If you are entitled to register, your Irish citizenship is effective from the date of registration. The Irish citizenship of successive generations may be maintained in this way by each generation ensuring their registration in the Foreign Births Register before the birth of the next generation.

Other words yes you can become one you need to register for it!

  4. Yes you are....come into the parlour...

  5. You have to apply for this and as far as I know there have been changes to the law on citizenship due to people arriving here just to have babies so they could become citizens.  If you want to be a citizen it is good but please take the time to find out about Ireland and the Irish people.  I hate when I travel to a "certain country across the Atlantic" and they say I am Irish or my granny was Irish and they dont know where in Ireland their heritage is.  it shows a lack of interest.  So welcome as a citizen but learn about your new country please!

  6. You certainly are!!! Well you have dual nationality obviously i.e. you are citizen of wherever your father was born and Ireland too

  7. You can register to become an Irish citizen. However, the notion of "Dual Citizenship" is not really a valid one, as most countries require you to relinquish any claims of citizenships to other countries before they give you citizenships of theirs. You Should really only be a citizen of one country. Relations between Ireland and England are such that one can sometimes hold dual citizenship and it can be tolerated, but it shouldn't work with other countries.

  8. Are you asking a question or making a statement?

You have a dual nationality then. You can choose to be either an Irish citizen or a citizen of whatever country you were born in.
