Mother was born in Dublin, Ireland, that makes me a citizen?

So according to the nationality law, I'm technically an Irish citizen.

this is only the case if you applied for it. Boyh my parents were citizens of Ireland but i am only an American citizen. This law only applies if they are still citizens at your time of bith and had you in a different country.

If one of your grandparents is an Irish citizen but none of your parents was born in Ireland, you may become an Irish citizen. You will need to have your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.

You have to apply for this and as far as I know there have been changes to the law on citizenship due to people arriving here just to have babies so they could become citizens.  If you want to be a citizen it is good but please take the time to find out about Ireland and the Irish people.  I hate when I travel to a "certain country across the Atlantic" and they say I am Irish or my granny was Irish and they dont know where in Ireland their heritage is.  it shows a lack of interest.  So welcome as a citizen but learn about your new country please!

You can register to become an Irish citizen. However, the notion of "Dual Citizenship" is not really a valid one, as most countries require you to relinquish any claims of citizenships to other countries before they give you citizenships of theirs. You Should really only be a citizen of one country. Relations between Ireland and England are such that one can sometimes hold dual citizenship and it can be tolerated, but it shouldn't work with other countries.

You have a dual nationality then. You can choose to be either an Irish citizen or a citizen of whatever country you were born in.
