Motherboard/CMOS battery problem please help 10 points?

I built a new computer and I am having a problem with the CMOS battery! it doesnt last more than 2 months

I have to replace the battery every 2 months. why is that?

It seems to me that my motherboard isnt charging the battery

p.s: I'm using a high quality battery and I turn on my computer pretty much every day

  1. 1. First of all, your CMOS battery is not chargeable! YOur CMOS battery powers your CMOS when the computer is off. When the computer is on, your CMOS should be getting its power supply from the motherboard circuit.

    2. If you are changing your CMOS battery too often obviously something is wrong with your motherboard. You might have a shorted capacitor that's draining your CMOS battery when you are not using your computer.

    Have your mobo checked by a competent technician. Someone who has a ESR meter can tell you quickly which capacitor is defective. Have it replaced if one is found.  


  2. Your motherboard does not charge up the battery. Google the model of your motherboard and see if other people are having the same problem
