Question:

Mothers and Mothers to be? Did you do any kind of "keepsake" item for your baby to have later on in life?

I was thinking of starting a journal shortly after Aiden is born and write a little something in it daily for the first year of his life. I realize that after he is born I may be looking for time to sleep instead of time to write in a journal but I do want to do something for him. I was just curious if anyone else has done something like this or had other ideas for something meaningful to give their child when they are older. Thanks in advance!!

  1. My sons name is going to be Aiden. :-) It is a good idea to keep the hospital bracelets, the little booties he'll get along with the caps. One of his first diapers(a clean one of course) his baby shower invitation, the annoucement that he is born. The little pieces off of the baby wreathes is always cute, the first outfit he came home in...those are definite keepsakes that you'll treasure forever.

  2. I have a pretty box for each of  my kids.

    In the box I have:

the hospital bracelets, both mine and theirs

the beanie they wore in the hospital

the onesie they wore in their 1 month old picture

    baby shower invitations

    baby shower favors

baby shower cards wrapped in ribbon

birthday cards from each of their birthdays

the thank you cards I sent out for their baby showers and birthdays

    birth announcement

I also have a newspaper from the day they were born wrapped in plastic.  I figure they might want to know what was going on in the world on the day they were born.

    Good Luck!

  3. i saved the really cute non stained newborn clothes and a lil pamper, my mom did that for me and i still pull out my stuff and see how small and cute the stuff i wore was, also i have a memory book of pictures with descriptions and stuff like that so when he gets older he can look back at it. yeah after the baby is born you need to rest

  4. When I found out I was pregnant I started a journal for my little girl.....I kept up pretty good for the 1st year and havent done much since then...I think that having my experiance of being pregnant and her 1st year will be good for her if ever she becomes pregnant....I know I had tons of questions that my mother couldnt remember because it was so long ago..

But I did find a cute little childrens store that had a poem on it for her wedding day if she gets married...it has a lucky penny and a tiny pearl braclet in it...so cute it made me cry...

I also keep EVERYTHING..LOL.. like first day of day care reports, lock of hair from 1st hair cute...braclets from the hospital when she was born..everything....

  5. Scrapbooks. Lot's and lots of scrapbooks. If you aren't the artsy type, there are premade books you can buy, all you have to do is add the pictures. My son enjoys looking at them now and I know he will appreciate it later on too.

  6. I think that's wonderful. Also my hubby and I plan to do video diaries. My mom thought something would be physically wrong with me (she took some sort of medication before she knew she was pregnant). She said that she cried every day and held this one specific stuffed animal. I took to it as a baby, but now it has a whole new meaning. Good for you and good luck!

  7. hey girl,

well im due july 26 and thru out my whole pregnancy ive always wrote down special dates like when she first moved and when i started showing like when she got the hiccups and i even got an album to put all her sonogram pictures and i wrote on a little paper what me and my husband seen her doing that day and who else came with us to see her and what the doctor said and how much weight i gained/lost everytime i would go to the gyno.. i also bought this book online at babiesrus that is sort of like a journal and its called my pregnancy its a record keeper which is something nice to have too.. its on sale.. also you could start a babys first year journal like you were planning to, its a nice idea ive been thinking about doing it too, i know im going to be tired but ur always going to have time to write two or three words and later on elaborate it more.. you could do a scrapbook with pictures of you while you are pregnant and write down your thoughts and things you went thru and everything you did.. im just very creative and i love to write and make things with my hands.. i even went and got a 4d sonogram because i thought that when my little princess grows me being in her place would love to see herself in mommys belly, you know? and when shes born im planning on saving her first nails that i cut and her hair and her cord and everything else i can keep, and i want to take pictures of all her firsts, i have so many things planned! i hope my ideas helped you out, let me know if you need anything else.. take care, good luck and god bless you and ur baby boy aiden..
