I am wondering if I should breastfeed my twins.. I tried with my previous children, but I didn't know much and didn't have much support.. and didn't stick it out due to the pain.. This is my last children and I kind of have the desire to breastfeed, but scared with there being 2 babies and it being a new experience to me... Anyone know where I can get info on breastfeeding twins.. anyone have experience doing it... ?? Help please!! Any advice.. comments.. links.. info.. is greatly appreciated.. Thank you!

  1. I breast fed my first set for 5 months.

It was hard work, and harder work. I never tantrum feed, because it was way too difficult. And I hated the first few weeks, because they would fed for 1/2 each every hour (yes, I know the maths). I did become ill from it, won't bore everyone with the details, but be careful with your diet.

I breast feed these guys for around 9 weeks. It was a nightmare for me. They like their brothers were so slow on the breast. I would pump and bottle feed them the majority of the time, just so I could do my house hold chores (on the farm it never ends). Plus I had 3 toddlers running around, so I was busy busy busy.

Yes it can be done. It is hard though.

Breast feeding for twins help??? Let me know when you find some. I was basically left out on my own. I had to rely on what I knew and my family (5sisters (IL) who breast fed)

Don't stress if you cannot do it. I beat myself after I stopped with William & Tobias, and felt crappy for ages. It isn't worth that.

  2. i breastfed my boys for a few weeks. it was easy in the hospital. i had nurses there to help. i would get one latched and have a nurse hold him while i got the other latched. after i got home i couldnt keep them latched. by the time i got one on and started on the other the first one was off. its hard to do with only two hands. since it takes two hands at first to get a baby latched on and you have to support them. so needless to say after we got home and it was me and the kids it was impossible. i kept waiting for it to get better and it never did for me. not saying it wont be a good experience for you. it just wasnt for me. at first i felt bad that i wasnt able to do it but you have to realize it isnt very practical. no one should look down on you for not breastfeeding and if they do they obviously dont have a clue what its all about. i say give it a shot. you wont know until you try if its going to work for you. i do wish you the best of luck though!!!

i know the la lache league in my town has moms of multiples breastfeeding support books that they lend out. you may check into that or any other breastfeeding support group im sure would have something that would help.

i remember a site that i looked at while i was pregnant and it had all kinds of information on bf'ing twins...but i cant seem to find it now. ill keep looking and if i find it ill send it your way =)

  3. i did and do.....the pump was/is my breast-friend! lol

  4. I am a Mother of twins. I wanted to breastfeed but I couldn't due to them being premature.

I would find your local mother of twins club... they have some great resources.

Also, I chose to pump... that way they got my milk but also some high calorie formula that they needed to gain weight. It was also easier because other people could feed them.

I hope that whatever you do works out for you.... I still regret not being able to nurse but you have to do what is right for you.

God Bless You and Your Family!

  5. It is possible to breast feed twins, but it is a lot of work. I've listed some resources below for you to check out. Breastfeeding is always very painful at first because after giving birth your body is still full of pregnancy hormones that make your nipples very sensitive. As these hormones leave your body, your nipples becomes less sensitive, and therefore, breastfeeding less painful. How long this takes is different for every woman. For me, it took two very painful weeks. But if you stick with it, the reward is worth the work!

I don't know if you are spiritual, but I found 2 Chronicles 15:7 in the Bible to be an inspiration. I hope it helps you.
