Question:

Mothers opinion on MMR vaccine

by  |  earlier

I'm a first time mom and my baby is only 6 months old, but in the future I have to make the decision if to vaccinate my little one. With all the controversy about autism and a future epidemic of measles because of frightend moms understandably avoiding the vaccine, I am unsure what to do when the time comes.

  1. I had the MMR thingy when i was young and my sis had it to, but she has Autism and I showed some of the syimptoms when I was younger

go for the one that sepirates them cos the MMR isn't safe

    what I'm saying is true

  2. All 3 of my children have had the MMR vaccine and none show any of these rumoured ill effects. I would have much rathered deal with a child with autism than risk my child dying, being blind, etc.

  3. My son is also 6 months and will be having mmr vacines, my Dad works for the NHS and reads the research which goes into these things and nothing has come up to put me off my children having the vaccine!

  4. Get your child vaccinated. It's your duty to protect him or her!

The autism link simply isn't true.

  5. well instead of getting the MMR shot, you can always space them apart and give it to your child with some time in between. Good job in choosing to vaccinate your child. There is NO scientific evidence that these shots cause autism. good luck!

  6. Another alternative is homeopathic immunization.   I consulted my naturopath who gave me a schedule and provided me with homeopathic, non-toxic nosodes to do 'base line' immunization for pertussis/whooping cough, tetanus, polio, diptheria, hempophilus influenza and rubella/measles.

The difference is, they are done one at a time, over the course of 6 weeks (4 times with progressively higher dosages, then a few more times over the years) and they are given orally.  They are little pellets with allows the inert pathogen to enter the body like the real disease would...through mucus membranes - not violently injected directly into the blood stream with no warning whatsoever.  That's assault.  Just like whatever a baby may put into his mouth playing at the park...the body is gently alerted to a foreign presence and marshals it's  natural defenses to deal with it.

As for the other diseases...it's good for a body to work through illnesses, it makes them stronger.  Childhood diseases are called that for a reason - it's best to get them in childhood.  I remember me and my friends and family working through the flu, chickenpox, measles, mumps...it was unpleasant but no big deal and in between these battles we were all very healthy.  Keep the baby healthy with sleep and good nutrition, and let the body do what it's built to do.

For some reason (hmmm...profit margin?) today's society has an almost hysterical aversion to getting sick.  It's life...let it happen and get stronger for it.

I'd rather my son work through the mumps now than be stricken with it as an adult AFTER the vaccine has worn off (and everyone forgets) and end up sterile as a result.  The adult body will be affected much, much worse.

So, immunization doesn't have to mean over 30 injections right into the blood stream or nothing.  There are alternatives.

  7. i am delaying vaccinations until 24 months. also just so you know measles is NOT a disease that is "deadly" to a healthy child. it used to be something that had a very high mortality rate when children did not have access to proper nutrition but that just isn't the case these days.

  8. Get your baby immunised.

Autism is genetic, nothing to do with the vaccine.

Giggles, there is absolutely nothing to prove there is a link so don't waste your time .

  9. there is no link to autism. there was even a doctor on the tv this morning saying there was absolutely no link. measles is on the rise in the uk, it's very serious and can result in brain damage or a coma x x

  10. Silly Nilly

What a stupid bloody answer of course measles can be deadly you idiot.

I read of a baby dying of it recently because other kids parents hadn't had their kids vaccinated.

There is absolutely no link between the vaccine and autism, get your child done.

  11. My child is up to date on all his vaccines. However, the doctor told me he does not give the MMR shot at 12 months, but waits until the baby is 18 months old. He does this because he said you can usually tell if a child is autistic by the time they are one year old. My cousin's 3 year old little boy was just diagnosed with autism, and they said it is not from the shot since he was acting differently before he turned one year old.

  12. I am doing all of the recommended vaccinations at the recommended times. I am glad I took this route because there is actually a possible measles outbreak happening in my area right now.

I personally do not believe that vaccines cause autism, though MAYBE they can bring it on sooner for a child who was already predisposed to having autism regardless. I don't know.

I do know that even if I DID think vaccines can cause autism, I would still probably vaccinate. Weigh the risk - autism vs. deadly disease? I am not saying Autism is no big deal - I have worked with Autistic people so I know that it can be a huge deal. BUT if something was to happen, I would prefer it be Autism instead of death due to an awful disease.

  13. We just space them out- meaning we don't get the combo vaccine.

I don't know of anyone who has an autistic child as a result of the vaccine.  They have vaccines that are free of the chemicals that have been linked to the condition.  Just ask for the newer vaccine.

  14. I gave my eldest child the MMR and when my youngest is old enough she will also be getting the vaccine. If you really, really look into it, you will see it have been proven that there is NO link between the MMR and autism.

By not vaccinating you are not only leaving your child open to risk, but you are also putting all the responsible parents children at risk too.

    Please vaccinate your child.

  15. The controversy regarding autism has been proved to be nothing more than scaremongering. My wife was born with rubella syndrome is now 44 years old and one of the oldest survivors of this. She is partly blind, partly deaf, has a weak heart, and cannot survive without heart drugs. She had to have open heart surgery at 11 years old simply to survive. Why? because her mother had not had the mmr jab and was pregnant with her. I couldnt begin to know how you would feel if this happened to a grandchild of yours because you had not had your daughter vaccinated.

  16. Hi Hun .. My take on the MMR some people will agree and others wont

My twins both had the MMR vaccine and when Thomas pictured left was three he was diagnosed with autism he is 10 now and non verbal, if this jab was to blame Kylie his twin sister would also have autism, Autism is a traid of traits and in the genes family history of mental heath problems, some family members in mine show various traits of autism like Not very sociable did things a certain way, my mum had to line her things up in straight lines (still does), these are what is known as a triad of traits where as children like my son get all these combined in one which as you know is full autism, Autism is tough yes but measles is deadly and id rather know i have protected my kids, just o to add i went to a child funeral a few months ago a child at my sons school the child had measles and yes it caused his death he was 7years old

  17. Which is worse?  Your kid getting Measles, Mumps and Rubella?  Or Autism (which I strongly believe that it's NOT connected to getting this vaccination).

And you can break it up, of course.  The Mumps aren't so bad.  I had them when I was around 6.

  18. Giggles is very young so please do not take any notice and as for silly nilly BOY OH BOY your a mum and your spouting c**p that could kill your child GROW UP ... Autism is tough BUT NO PROOF that the MMR causes autism there were test carried out ( Autism's Beautiful Face) her twins were part of this reasearch in London she her previous question (or add link ABF please)

    Its gene's !

  19. My 3 year old had her mmr at 12 months and will be having another one done at 3 and a half, i'm also pregnant again and when this baby is old enough it too will be having it!!

As for silly billy saying measles is not life threatening _ GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!! children still die from measles!!!

  20. My children one age 5 and one age 3 both had there MMR vaccine's and are both fine!

My 2 week old son is also having it done when its time for him to.

My youngest sister who is 7 years old now had German Measles (rubella) when she was a little under a year old and was very ill and in hospital for weeks being treated for it, She made a full recovery but it was very upsetting for all of us and i never want that to happen to any of my children.

  21. i'm not a mother, but my sister is a mother of two who also runs clinical trials.  she had both her children vaccinated with the MMR.  There is little evidence to suggest a link with autism beyond that symptoms of autism typically begin to show at around the same age as the MMR is given.

as well as this, we forget now because the majority of babies don't die in this country, but measles is a killer disease that used to claim hundreds of lives each year.  even when it doesn't kill, measles can cause complications like encephalitis and meningitis that can cause serious brain injury or physical damage to organs etc which can drastically impair quality of life.

a relatively small dip in levels of immunisation can have a significant impact on the levels of infection in a community - and these put all children, even those immunised, at risk of diseases.  even children who have been immunised catch a milder form of measles if it becomes prevalent in the community they live in.

the combination of the relatively small risk of autism even if there IS a link, and the potentially catastrophic effects of not immunising, my sister had both her children immunised with the regular MMR.

  22. I am sick to death of all this scaremongering over the MMR jab.

I had all mine done without a seconds hesitation.

A woman asked a question on here a while ago, but said she didn't want any of us lot who believed it didn't cause autism to answer with our c**p and blocked anyone who did.

If ignorant selfish women like her are going to continue not to vaccinate we are headed for a serious outbreak of these deadly diseases.

When I was a kid I was in hospital, the little boy in the next bed to me died of measles, it was heartbreaking.

    Please get the jabs.

    Edit

I think Silly Nilly's orange badge has gone to her head and Giggles is only about 10 so ignore their answers.

  23. I dithered about getting my eldest daughter vaccinated - then at 18 months she contracted a farily mild virus that looks a bit like measles and causes a very high fever and I was beside myself with worry.

That panic was enough to make me give her the MMR - and she's fine, as is my other vaccinated daughter

When the inevitable measles epidemic happens in our area, I'll be mighty glad I had them vaccinated.

Above is an article that's interesting - After MMR was withdrawn in Japan in the early nineties, the rate of Autism continued to increase - so MMR wasn't causing autism there.

  24. OMG GET YOUR CHILD VACCINATED

I am fed up of hearing all this c**p about autism etc, its irresponsible to not get your child vaccinated, I took the time to get my children vaccinated, i put them through the pain of an injection because its the right thing to do, the more children that aren't vaccinated the more chance my children have of catching measles, how selfish can people get to put other children at risk because they wont get their children immunised

This topic makes me SO BLOODY MAD

    AND

Why space them out and put your child through 3 injections instead of 1, it doesn't make sense, there is NO link between MMR and autism

  25. Let's weigh the possible outcomes:

1- You get the vaccine and have a slight risk of autism for your child (which many kids do not get and many kids without vaccines still get autism).  Your child is now protected against measles, mumps and rubella and if they do happen to get one of these diseases it will not take their life and they will recover moderately quick.

2-You don't get the vaccine.  Sure you eliminate any risk of autism from the shots, although your child could still have autism even without the shots, but say your child contracts one of those diseases and dies from a disease that is totally preventable with a single shot.

My choice: #1, I'd rather have a child with autism than have my child die of a preventable disease.  And there is no link between the MMR shot and autism.  It's my belief that children who are said to contract autism from this vaccine had the disease before the shot.  The shot simply brings out the symptoms to light, therefore giving the child a chance to begin early intervention for autism.

*I think "Autism's Beautiful Face" would know best on this one.  Take her advice.  Good luck with your little one*
