2 nights ago i had this dream that a tsunami was going to hit the island where i live, and i knew we were all going to die. i was holding my 1month old, and the first thing i thought was 'i have to find a way to kill her cuz i dont want her to drown.'

needless to say i woke up terrified and feeling sick at the thought of saying i have to kill my daughter. i told the dream to my mom and she said that those types of dreams&thoughts are normal, and that in my dream i decided i had to kill her so she wouldnt suffer.

has anyone else had thoughts or dreams about things like that.? sorry this isnt that nice of a question, but i just want to make sure im not a horrible person thinkin about killing her children. it scared me.

  1. In my house we call these psycho mommy dreams.  I had a dream there was a rattlesnake  on my 4 month old so I hit them both with a shovel to kill the snake.  I more often have dreams about others breaking in to kill the baby or kidnap her.  I'm sorry to say that my sister is 25 and my mom still has a recurring dream where she dies on a snow mobile.  so I think we are stuck with the crazy dreams forever.

  2. The way I see it is as a parent we feel helpless or powerless in some ways...you didn't want your daughters life to be left to "fate" that could very well be cruel...therefore insead of allowing the unknown to happen to your child you wanted to take control and KNOW the outcome, instead of allowing the unknown to happen.

  3. I haven't thought of killing my daughter, but when I was pregnant with her, I had horrible dreams of killing my family.

I think it's a valid thought to not want your babies to suffer... It's kind of like, you are that devoted, you would commit the ultimate most horrible act upon someone because of just that... You are devoted and have unconditional love. I'm not saying to do it, but as a mother, I would probably do the same in that sort of position.

  4. this is normal...and no ur not a horrible person...a teacher of mine one time had a dream of baby sitting her new born grandchild (bc she was supposed to be baby sitting her soon) and in her dream...the grandchild got stuck in a hole...stuff like this only means that ur worried about the child...not intentionally trying to harm them.

  5. Dreams are way of healing the mind from the things in life that are bothering/disturbing us.  We do this by creating in our dreams a similar situation that allows us to draw on an emotion or situation that worked for us in the past, this usually puts our mind to rest and heals it from any fears and hurt.  A nightmare is when we have a situation that we cannot find a correllation from our past and so the dream gets more dramatic and random trying to find a solution that is not there.  Although dreams are not real the disturbance/worry in our mind that we feel is.  Something is worrying you, it could simply be the usual maturing of the mind and the reality of now you have a responsibility to look after and look out for the safety of your children, a daunting job.  I would say your dream is perfectly normal in this regard.  Try to make yourself more secure in your life.  Good luck.

  6. I have never had dreams of me killing my child or hurting her but I have had dreams where some one else was hurting her. I had a dream once that my daughter was kidnapped right infront of me but I couldn't move to chase after her for some reason. I woke up and ran to her room she was fast asleep.

  7. You're not a horrible person.  You can't control your dreams.  It's normal to want to protect your child from needless suffering.  It's love.  From the information you provided it wasn't really a dream about killing your child but instead about doing the unthinkable in order to prevent your child's suffering.
